The energy industry in the United Arab Emirates
The United Arab Emirates is comprised of seven emirates – Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Dubai, Fujairah, Ras Al-Khaimah, Sharjah and Umm Al-Quwain and is the 8th highest oil-producing country in the world and ranks 8th in the world in terms of oil reserves. As a result, about 30 per cent of the country’s GDP is directly based on oil and gas output and it has the 2nd largest economy in the Middle East. The largest reserves are Abu Dhabi, followed by Dubai and the largest oil field is the Zakum field which is the third-largest in the Middle East.
