SBM Offshore is a world leader in floating production solutions. SBM Operations are looking for experienced Operability Technical Managers to work in SBM Groups Regional Project Execution offices, one position in each of the following :

• Schiedam, Netherlands.

• Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

• Houston, USA

KEY DUTIES

The Operability Technical Manager provides operational input and participates in conceptual definitions for new projects from bid stage through to realization including design, engineering, procurement and (remote) construction/completions support when required. They implement and help to refine SBM/Operations policies in order to optimize return on Company investments out of new projects.

This is a senior role, permanently located in the Operability Department; the Technical Manager also has a functional reporting to the following managers responsible for the respective project phases : Operability Manager for WIN and Ops Readiness Manager for EXECUTE. Effectively the Technical Manager represents these functions within his/her own Regional Centre environment.

In particular, they provide management and technical back up to the operations project teams temporarily based in their Regional Centre, during the design phase. Responsibilities include :

• Monitor the design and engineering of new projects to ensure that Company requirements are incorporated at an early stage

• In collaboration with the Operability Lessons Manager and others, ensure that SBMs operating experience and lessons obtain necessary improvements in the regional centres processes and projects

• During bid stage, provide input on primary choices and main options for new projects. Participate in the definition of the technical concept taking in account the marketing strategy, the clients preferences and the operational considerations

• Participate in the sales efforts as needed to convince the Client of the Reliability and Operability of our systems and support the commercial efforts technically

• Ensure that the engineering and vendor technical proposals/designs contain all Operations and Company requirements and that O&M budget estimates correspond to design choices

• Participate to, or organize relevant Ops representation, for Technology developments, reviews or workshops in the local centre

• Co-ordinate with Regional Centre management, for general matters affecting the local Operations personnel / project teams, i.e. to harmonize with local HR, IT, etc

• Maintain a working relationship with local engineering discipline managers, project managers, etc, and a familiarity with their working practices as well as the Operations issues on preceding projects

• Maintain adequate links with SBM Operations headquarters key personnel, as well as an effective interface with Unit Managers as required.

• Provide an effective means of escalation for the local project Operability Lead/s, influencing project outcomes accordingly

• Guide and coach the local project Operability Leads and other Ops team members, as required, maintaining visibility to management of high potential (Operational risk / benefit) issues

• In cases where no Operability Lead is assigned locally, the Technical Manager will act in that role.

QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS / EXPERIENCE

• Previous operations/maintenance experience is expected; project/operability experience an advantage

• Bachelors Engineering Degree with > 10-15 years experience within the Oil & Gas industry, or, OIM, Production, Maintenance Supt. or Master Mariner > 20 years of relevant experience

• Minimum of 10 years FPSO experience

• > 4 years experience in line management, with ability to coach towards more junior leaders

• Commercial and Budget awareness

• Process safety knowledge

• Ability to work independently, to quickly assess and prioritize situations.

• Good influencing skills. Relationship building and team engagement ability

• Good communication skills in English, both written and spoken

• Strength in situations of adversity, coupled with diplomacy and sustainable relationship management with peers and stakeholders. Ability to perform in complex matrix environments.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Permanent Staff position

• Office located in one of the SBM Regional Centres

• Monday to Friday, 8 hours per day

• Limited business travel, when required
