Senior Subsea Systems Engineer in ENG-Feltham, United Kingdom

Job Overview: 
McDermott in Epsom are currently recruiting for a Senior Subsea Systems Engineer to be based in Epsom / Feltham, UK. 
The Senior Subsea Systems Engineer will ensure that the overall field design / architecture works seamlessly end-to-end as a single production system. This includes the coordination of all aspects of system design parameters from Onshore, Offshore Platforms, Offshore FPSOs, Offshore Pipelines / Flowlines and the Subsea Production System.
The Senior Subsea Systems Engineer should have extensive knowledge of subsea field architectures, subsea production systems (SPS) and subsea umbilicals, risers and flexibles (SURF). The role holder will also have extensive experience in the Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Installation (EPCI) lifecycle and will understand the engineering development and management stage-gates used throughout this process.
Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
  • Substantial cross-discipline interaction across the subsea scope and will require close collaboration with the Topsides, FPSO and Subsea Production System teams.
  • Support integration across technical interfaces with the Operations, Wells, Subsurface and FPSO / Topsides teams
  • Support engagement with client Chief Engineers and Technical Authorities to ensure alignment with functional expectations
  • Support the identification of system wide risks and the delivery of risk actions plans for the project.
  • Track and manage technical risks, drive integrity and reliability through client processes such as TRAP's, constructability reviews, FMECA's,
  • Maintain awareness and promote conformance to client expectations and requirements of Safe Design and Quality Build
  • Promote, demonstrate and ensure compliance with all appropriate elements of the client contract, Operating Management System (OMS), including Risk Management, Continuous Improvement and Management of Change,
  • Responsible for the safe, efficient, and effective execution of engineering activities during Execute and communication of project goals and expectations.
  • Provide exemplary leadership to the Execute Contractors to facilitate successful delivery of engineering in support of project delivery,
  • Provide coaching and development to direct reports
  • Manage EPCI contractor performance and delivery
  • Take ownership of the system wide strategies, ensuring that requirements are captured in system functional requirements and supported by appropriate operating guideline documentation:
  • Take ownership of subsea cluster layouts, ensuring integration with the wells, transportation and installation teams.
  • Testing Strategy - ensure that the test pressure requirements are clearly defined, aligned across design scopes (and codes/standards) to provide clear input into SIR/SRT, pre-commissioning and commissioning scopes
  • Take ownership of the availability activities for the project, ensuring that the client specifications are consistently met across all aspects of the subsea project
  • Take ownership of RAM studies carried out by SPS Contractor and ensure alignment with the EPCI contractor deliverables
  • Ensure that the qualification program for the hardware components is aligned with expected operating characteristics and deliver reliability expectations for operations handover including the System FMECA and RAD
  • Isolation Philosophy - take ownership of the subsea isolation philosophy and ensure all operational requirements (particularly IMR and testing requirements as they are developed) are met
  • Support integrity management and surveillance strategies throughout the project to ensure the equipment and system design supports asset surveillance
  • Integrate IMR strategy with reliability evaluations to ensure critical spares are identified and documented.
  • Deliver engineering input to the Subsea Operations Readiness Plan through the development of operating guidelines for intervention and testing activities post start-up, consistent with process design and IMR requirements, this includes - single flowline operation, SSIV and SCSSV valve testing
Basic Qualifications:
  • 10 years experience working in the Oil and Gas EPC Industry (mandatory)
  • Must have the right to work in the UK (mandatory)
  • Degree qualified and chartered in a relevant engineering discipline (mandatory)
  • Detailed understanding of Topsides and Subsea design codes (mandatory)
  • Commercially and Contractually aware with knowledge of interface systems and the complexities associated with the transfer of data between major contractors not directly contracted to each other (mandatory)
  • EPCI Project experience working for design consultancy (desirable)
  • A broad understanding of the offshore and subsea oil and gas industry, technologies and installation methods
  • Strong communications capability both written and verbal. Must be capable of facilitating and chairing meetings.
  • Pragmatic and flexible approach, and comfortable working in an open and collaborative environment.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills to all levels.
  • Proven ability to manage small teams.
