Senior Structural Engineer (PE/SE) in St Louis, MO, United States

Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is currently seeking a motivated team member to fulfill the role of Senior Structural Engineer. The position will be based out of our St. Louis, MO office. 

Wood is a leader in the consultant engineering industry, serving federal, state, and local governments as well as a wide array of power, commercial and industrial clients. Wood has key contracts in place and a strong project portfolio presenting opportunities for rapid expansion of this practice. The St. Louis Engineering team also supports other offices throughout North America. Work includes infrastructure project, power generation, a wide array of private industry services and transportation design. We are looking for an experience Structural Engineer who can lead a design team, serving as an Engineer of Record, as well as mentor younger staff. Illinois Structural Engineers license is required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Performs structural design and analyses for complex engineering projects
  • Perform designs utilizing common construction materials such as cast in place and precast concrete, steel, masonry
  • Design of water control and buried structures to relevant local and federal standards
  • Shallow and deep foundation design for a wide variety of structures
  • Design of retaining wall structures
  • Small building analysis/design
  • Design/analysis of other miscellaneous structural elements in support of industrial facilities
  • Support all engineer disciplines in executing structural aspects of a wide variety of projects of varying sizes and complexities
  • Development and/or review of preliminary and final design calculations and engineering drawings
  • Development and/or review of project specifications
  • Development and/or review of quantity take-offs, cost estimates, schedule and other miscellaneous project documents
  • Support development of proposals used to win new project work
  • Use of advanced structural analysis/design software
  • Use of common CADD platforms
  • Manage projects with a focus on schedule, budget and client
  • Maintain client relationships to further establish Woods presence in the markets we serve
  • Mentor and provide assistance in the support and development of junior group staff
  • Provide assistance to the engineering department manager and office manager as needed


Skills / Qualifications

  • Ten plus years of design experience
  • Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering (Structural focused) is required; Masters degree or higher will be considered an asset
  • Registration as a Missouri Professional Engineer (PE) and an Illinois Structural Engineer (SE) is required
  • Professional registration in other states will be considered an asset
  • A strong grasp of AutoCAD and MicroStation is required; the ability to self-perform CAD work is an asset; 3D modeling and BIM experience is an asset
  • Experience with US Army Corp of Engineers will be considered an asset
  • Experience with bridge design and sound understanding of the LRFD Highway Bridge Design Code (AASHTO) would be considered an asset
  • Design of railroad bridges incorporating AREMA Manual for Railway Engineering practices would be considered an asset
  • Bridge evaluations including inspections (NBIS certified) and load ratings would be an asset
  • Excellent verbal, and written communication skills
  • Communication skills and problem solving ability is essential in your work with multi-disciplinary team members and clients; a strong work ethic is required
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy, with an ability to work effectively in a team environment with minimum supervision and high personal standards for quality control
  • Ability to work effectively as a remote member of a team
  • Highly organized and able to prioritize multiple tasks demonstrating a flexible approach to work assignments
  • Ability to adapt to a wide array of clients and project delivery methods
  • Must be physically able to perform miscellaneous field duties including condition assessments and construction inspection services
  • Must be able to travel domestically, though long term deployment is not typical or required
