Process Computing Engineer, Sizewell, Suffolk, Salary £33,446 - £71,818 with Benefits

EDF Energy has an exciting new opportunity for a Process Computing Engineer at Sizewell B Power Station. You will join a multi-skilled team of experienced and highly motivated engineers working together to provide support to the stations plant computing systems.

The Process Computing Group at Sizewell is responsible for all aspect of system support of its computing systems predominantly system health, maintenance, OEM interface, design engineering, spare parts management, and long term engineering support. The group is responsible for the stations computerised reactor protection and control systems, full scope simulators, alarms systems, PLCs, and Engineering LAN systems. It also manages processes including cyber security, C&I standards, software subject matter experts.

Day to day activities could include:


• Act as a system and/or process owner.
• Undertake fault diagnosis and rectification on various plant computer systems.
• Perform reviews and optimise maintenance strategy reports.
• Act as a technical expert, providing advice to customers on and off site.
• Manage obsolescence and aging programs.
• Support the innovation spotlight by developing and deploying new systems and technologies.
• Ensure the ongoing security of plant computer systems are maintained.
• Project management of new installations and system upgrades and supporting station projects.
• Support the Engineering Change process as a responsible engineer and provide C&I assessments
• Troubleshoot faults on PC, laptop and server software and hardware.
• Configuration management
• Become a subject matter expert

The Person

Our ideal candidate possesses a robust understanding of engineering principles together with a broad knowledge of power station C&I and computer based systems. The role involves close interaction with customers to ensure high availability of the plant systems.

The Skills

As a minimum, entrants will need to be educated to HNC standards (or equivalent) and have a technical background. Two years experience in maintaining plant based computer systems would be advantageous.

An honours degree and or qualifications leading to charted engineer status would be beneficial. A comprehensive training programme is available to the successful candidate, including PWR specific training.


Knowledge of one or more of the following would be expected: Computer operating systems, computer networks, PLCs, database administration, software lifecycle management and development, project management, plant maintenance, cyber security.


Depending on experience, the successful applicant could be expected to provide supervision to other engineers within the group.

Competitive Salary & Benefits

The salary range is between £33,446 and £71,818, with terms and conditions covered by the EDF Energy Nuclear Generation Company Agreement. The starting salary for this appointment will be dependent on your existing salary, competence, experience and qualifications. You will receive 28 days annual holiday plus bank holidays, incremental and competency based progression, a career average company pension scheme.
