The Wind Site Manager of Mesquite Star will report to the Regional Manager and will be located in Roscoe, Texas. Mesquite Star is a new 418 MW wind farm expected to go commercial in January 2020. The Site Manager will be present during the final phase of construction and be involved in working with Construction through final site commissioning.

The Site Manager will direct all plant operations for maintenance and repair. Some of the responsibilities will include developing a site operation plan, managing site budget, managing site personnel and participation in fleet-wide initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for the safe and compliant day-to-day operation of wind farm
  • Responsible for monitoring, upkeep, and reporting of plant performance
  • Create an annual operating plan and provide input on an annual budget
  • Set direction and measure operational performance of site staff and contractors
  • Primary contact for resolution in performance and land utilization matters
  • Local point of contact for land owners, local authorities, and state agencies regarding environmental and contractual concerns involving the site
  • Participate in contract negotiations with sub-contractors and other vendors for parts and services required for wind power installations for site
  • Perform operation and switching of high voltage equipment using approved switching orders
  • Service, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair substation and collection system malfunctions, when needed
  • Coordinate efforts and schedule of the on-site turbine technicians
  • Assist in SCADA functions such as data editing, report creation, and local SCADA problem resolutions
  • Monitor wind conditions, SCADA reports, turbine performance, maintenance schedules, and staff performance on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis
  • Ability to implement and train direct reports on all programs and procedures
  • Responsible to communicate site issues with internal departments (IT, Engineering Human resources, etc..) provide follow up as needed
  • Be able to respond to plant outages on a 24/7 schedule
  • Weekly travel between the two wind sites is required
  • Occasional overnight trips required (approx. 10%)
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Possess the necessary skills to service, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair substation and collection system malfunctions
  • Ability to climb towers unassisted up to 300 feet. Job and able to stand outside the nacelle and nosecone at the top of the turbine
  • In depth knowledge of NERC standards and other utility regulatory requirements, power purchase contracts, operations management, financial reporting.
  • Ability to safely handle and work with objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance. and up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to work with electrical wires and differentiate between color coded wires.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the technical and business facets of a wind site
  • Must have reliable transportation to/from work
  • Proficiency in using project management software, MS Project preferred
  • Ability to safely work in a wide range of adverse climates and environments, including confined spaces
  • Ability to travel, including overnight, as required
  • Ability to meet requirements of Qualified Electrical Worker program.

Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma is required
  • A 4-year degree in business, engineering, or related field is preferred
  • Minimum of 7 years in the wind or power generation
  • Minimum of 3 years managing employees, contractors, and projects
  • Experience starting of new wind farm is a highly preferred
  • Possess and valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Experience with operations financial management, forecasting and controls.
  • Technical training in wind plant operations is preferred
  • OSHA training is preferred
