The Feedstock/Renewables Supply Commercial Lead, West Coast will be responsible for exploring and developing new business opportunities, managing the successful development of offers, building strong and effective relationships with appropriate partner/supplier contacts and project managing specific elements of strategic projects, whilst exercising a sound combination of commercial and technical rigor to help achieve BP's growth objectives.

Key accountabilities:

  • Develop and manage external commodity supply and transportation relationships to better understand external and competitive landscape
  • Develop and execute strategic (>5 years) and tactical (1-5 years) Supply strategies that are aligned with overall North America Fuels strategy
  • Work closely with Supply and Optimization teams (Refining and Marketing Supply teams) and Global Oil Americas (Marketing & Origination, Trading and Operations) to understand business drivers to deliver reliable, efficient supply while generating maximum value for the overall supply chain
  • Interface with Strategy and Portfolio in the development of strategic and tactical plans
  • Negotiate commercial transactions through the CVP process to ensure delivery is within established negotiating boundaries, expected timelines and agreed performance objectives
  • Utilizing dedicated and shared development and functional resources to create driven and capable teams aimed at developing compelling, complete and unbiased business cases and approval documents in accordance with BP and external standards
  • Broaden scope, scale, and options of initiatives including incorporation of creative commercial structures and advantaged commercial agreements aimed at maximizing revenue while minimizing cost (both fixed and variable) and risk
  • Execute transactions consistent with North America Fuels and Global Oil Americas standards, control processes and policies

Essential education:
  • A Bachelors degree is required
  • Prior commercial negotiations experience is required

Essential experience and job requirements:
  • 5+ years of supply chain experience (operations, supply, trading, marketing and logistics)
  • Experience with developing and delivering approvals through the preparation of Confidentiality Agreements, Authority to Negotiate/Settle, and Financial Memorandum documents
  • Ability to build and maintain highly productive working relationships with external parties
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills with a commitment to overall team success
  • Proven self-starter with ability to manage conflicting priorities with tight timelines
  • Strong influencing and team building skills, with an ability to build consensus and engagement with key stakeholders at all levels and across organizational boundaries
  • Embraces and actively incorporates BPs Values and Behaviours of safety, respect, excellence, courage and one team, into daily performance and execution
  • Understands where BP is competitively advantaged/disadvantaged/neutral
  • Has a practical understanding of the major events that impact the demand balances covering the entire FVC (such as infrastructure outages, demand and supply material changes, TARs, spec. changes etc.) and knows how to apply this understanding to develop appropriate action plans
  • Establishes constructive relationships that build optionally and support delivery of the business
  • Able to optimize supply sources, logistics and inventory to meet demand and maximize gross margin
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the refining and marketing supply processes and how they relate to operations
  • Fully understands the external market environment, bringing intimate knowledge of the broader supply/demand balance and market conditions into the commercial discussion and decisions with the FVC and the refinery
