Vermilion has an excellent opportunity for a Technical Team Lead Engineering position based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
Technical Team Lead Engineering
The role will technically lead the engineering team and provide expertise in leading the development and execution of a depletion strategy along with the planning and project management to establish and advance development and exploration prospects in assigned assets.
Key Responsibilities:
HSE:
- Support HSE initiatives within the business unit - assist with all HSE programs
- Assist the Engineering Manager in assigning HSE deliverables within the Reservoir, Exploitation and Production team and monitor progress of those deliverables.
- Maintain a safe, healthy and environmentally responsible workplace
Project and Portfolio Management:
- Oversee and provide direction on the prioritization and advancement of the porfolio of exploration and development prospects to ensure long term production and reserve conversion targets are achieved;
- Ensure key milestones, stakeholders, and decision makers are clearly identified for projects within the team;
- Assist the Engineering Manager in prioritizing the teams work to ensure business unit targets are achieved;
- Ensure projects are appropriately documented from concept to DSPs, peer reviews, and look backs- provide direction to ensure projects are documented consistently amongst the team;
- Generation and prioritization of reserve conversion and optimization opportunities;
- Assist the team members and provide direction and guidance in setting up and running field, pool and well reviews to identify reservoir management, drilling, workover, recompletion and surface facility debottlenecking opportunities;
- Oversee the management of major capital projects in the business unit ensure project manager has adequate resources for project assessment, detailed design and execution to ensure that projects deliver expectations;
- Review technical assessments of opportunities put forward by the exploitation and reservoir engineers, including assessment of gathering limitations to ensure technical inputs to economic evaluations and DSP’s are achievable;
- Initiate, monitor and optimize the depletion strategies of the Company’s existing and new assets;
- Assist the Engineering Manager in coordination of the annual reserves assessment;
- Applying oil and gas asset evaluation experience to acquisition and divestiture opportunities and the preparation of the associated business proposals and delegate to team where appropriate;
- Maintaining area knowledge and expertise to exploit opportunities including acquisitions, farm-ins, competitor activities and other market related information;
- Oversee and assist the Production Engineer in creating and managing production forecasts for the business unit.
LRP, Budget and Cost Management:
- Provide direction and oversee the coordination of annual capital budget including required revisions throughout the year;
- Coordinate with team to monitor and track monthly performance of actual spend vs. plan for all projects;
- Review and provide feedback to the team on detailed economic evaluations of projects;
- Cost management for drilling/ workover/facility operations to maximize project opportunities;
- Provide direction and oversee the Exploitation Engineers in the development, maintenance and management of the long range plan.
Compliance and Permitting:
- Support team to understand all relevant acts and operating permits, their content and limitations;
- Ensure you and your team understand the permitting process and approval timelines for each type of permit including “winningsplans” (WIPLA’s);
- Ensure team is managing the generation of all required permits to ensure all permits are submitted for portfolio prospects based off best estimate timelines;
- Review permit packages put forward by the team before delivering to the commercial team for submission;
- Support the commercial team in pushing regulatory bodies for approvals, ensuring priorities are well known and communicated;
- Understand and ensure compliance with work commitments required to retain exploration and production licenses;
- Support Public and Governmental Relations efforts as required to progress all permits including WIPLA’s through to approval;
- Support submissions to the Ministry of Economic Affairs for new concession applications.
Essential Experience & Skills:
- +10 years’ experience in Petroleum Engineering related roles;
- A proven leader; self-motivated and keen to share knowledge, forge relationships and co-ordinate work from other disciplines;
- Strong track record of delivering value adding results through opportunity generation and execution;
- A self-starter with proven ability to prioritize and multi-task;
- Having made significant contribution to development projects and enhancing recovery from producing assets;
- Be able to demonstrate a firm understanding of the oil and gas business as a whole;
- Excellent analytical, interpretive and problem solving skills;
- Strong communication skills both written and verbal.
Education:
- Bachelor or Master Degree in Petroleum Engineering or related discipline;
- Must be fluent in English, Dutch would be considered an added benefit.
