Construction Discipline Lead - Civil & Structural in Basra, Al-Basrah, Iraq

Wood is currently recruiting for Construction Discipline Leads (Civil and Structural) to strengthen our team in Basra, Iraq. Reporting to and supporting the BGC Civil & Structural Superintendent. It is 28 / 28 rotational job with the following responsibilities: 

Discipline lead for owners C&S construction management team assuring Installation Contractors (IC) performance within the terms and conditions of the contract to achieve safety, technical and quality standards.

  • Provide visible Safety Leadership to all site teams
  • Proactively develop behaviours and culture of safety first to achieve Goal Zero
  • Front line responsibility for assurance of Installation Contractors HSE performance, achieving our standards
  • Lead and attend safety site visits, TBT, safety stand downs, CSSS audits.
  • Raise observations by intervention empower Installation Contractors teams to identify hazards and implement controls
  • Participate in safety incident investigations
  • Ensure the site-based Installation Contractors work face planning and supervisory teams plan and execute work in line with the schedule and work pack scope. Preparing materials and equipment (bagging and tagging) and delivering to the work face
  • Support the Asset material lead in ensuring the Installation Contractors provide preservation measures for identified equipment and materials
  • Identify and support hand on tool time improvements with the Installation Contractors report improvements
  • Proactively identify and promote effective working methods with the Installation Contractors
  • Ensure the Installation Contractors achieves technical compliance while fabrication constructing temporary and permanent facilities in line with the project schedule.
  • Ensure the Installation Contractors site material control and bagging and tagging activities are in line with area construction schedule requirements
  • Support the customer's logistics and site material team ensuring understanding of company free issue materials requirements to support the schedule 
  • Provide customer authority for identified high risk activities.
  • Complete and submit daily/weekly area progress reports to the superintendent
  • Ensure prompt responses to the Installation Contractors construction quires expediting vendor support as required
  • Ensure that changes related to TQs responses are implemented on site. Confirm appropriate Site instructions or variations are approved prior to work
  • Review of contractor requested variation and so site instructions confirming variation and assessment of commercial and schedule impact
  • Ensure Installation Contractors are compliant with quality and flawless requirements interfacing with the Asset Quality lead to ensure compliance and support assurance audits
  • Ensure Installation Contractors comply with Flawless requirements Tightness, cleanliness preservation
  • Ensure that all QA/QC documentations are up to date as per project requirement.
  • Perform inspections and verifications during construction and/or fabrication activities in accordance with the Asset assurance plan and requirements of the contractors ITP. Ensure that QA/QC inspections are been carried out as per project requirements.
  • Ensure that handover documentation /dossiers are complete as per project requirements.
  • Ensure that facilities are constructed and implemented as per project specifications and design.
  • Ensure and assure contractor installs and completes work in line with ITR requirements. Manage the contractor during the seamless interface from area construction to system/sub system completion.
  • Ensure the Installation Contractors develops a subsystem based ITR skyline and completes in alignment with CSU system handover priorities
  • Ensure customer participation in tri party subsystem walk downs with the Installation Contractors ensure punch items are identified and recorded
  • Ensure the Installation Contractors completes all A and B punch items in accordance with the completions and handover requirements
  • Ensure that discipline handover documentation /Dossier are complete as per project requirements. Responsible to ensure that the contractor has all required drawings up to date and including redlines/as- built.
  • Confirm Installation Contractors provide adequate materials equipment and Installation Contractors technicians to support the agreed schedulePerform assurance checks during Installation Contractors pre-commission and testing activities
  • Provide technical support to the Installation Contractors during pre-commission activitiesEnsure vendor support is identified and manged by the Installation Contractors
  • Perform safety critical verification and approvals within the discipline ITR approval process and tri party sub/system walkdown and approval to final MC handover
  • Confirm The Test Sheets are correct and Installation Contractors approved in preparation for approval by customer and/or VENDOR and the Certifying Agency as applicable 
  • Perform inspections and verifications during pre-commissioning activities in accordance with the asset assurance plan and requirements of the contractors ITP


Skills / Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree or Diploma in relevant discipline Engineering or Construction trade and management qualification from a recognised University or College
  • Has minimum 10 years experience in the Oil and Gas industry in discipline
  • Has minimum 5 years experience in Iraq and or Middle East
  • Experience in multi Construction projects in several different countries
  • IT Literate (Excel / Word etc)
  • Good influencing and negotiating skills
  • Previous experience working on rotation with back to back is an advantage.
  • Good interpersonal skills in order to represent the Project in external forums and on engagements with external stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage and deliver through multiple functions
