Roof Technician in US-FL-Orlando, United States

Wood Environmental & Infrastructure Solutions is seeking a Roofing Technician to travel independently, or with a team, to perform minor roof preventative maintenance at various client site locations. The technician shall meet various project clerical and physical needs including, but not limited to, verbal communication with site contacts and Wood project management teams, scheduling of site visits, clerical paperwork consisting of daily work/inspection reports, photo collection during site visits and input of information into the project database. Being able to evaluate and mitigate/solve field conditions is an essential part of the role. This position demands a focused attention to safety and the ability to assess and safely work according to the existing conditions at each location visited. Any company related travel accommodations, such as hotel and food, will be covered by Wood at the determined Government Per Diem rate. Wood will provide a full-size work truck, fuel, maintenance, vehicle insurance, tools and equipment relevant to the project scope.

Position Summary:

  • Perform bi-annual preventative maintenance services of various facility rooftops. This includes cleaning of debris from drains, scuppers, and roof deck, repairs to any parapet/equipment/piping flashings and supports, minor repairs to roofing membrane, coping, fascia, expansion joints, drains, gutters, downspouts, skylights, or collector heads, trim back of foliage as needed, perform under deck visual inspections as needed and if accessible
  • Identify any roofing deficiencies including location, density, quantity and severity
  • Documenting maintenance and inspection results with clear and appropriately labeled photographs
  • Good note taking and documentation of observed conditions
  • Prepare accurate field reports and input data into the project database using a laptop computer and web-based computer applications
  • Potential for time and a half overtime to meet schedule

  • Must work well independently, have a positive customer service attitude, and possess the ability to execute effective verbal and written communication skills with project schedulers and owners representatives is required
  • Ability to travel in a company provided vehicle
  • Perform standard administrative clerical tasks and physical tasks needed


Skills / Qualifications

Education and Basic Qualifications Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Roofing experience is preferred, or any general construction experience
  • Must be capable of passing a background check
  • Ability to pass a drug screening
  • Must possess and maintain a valid U.S. drivers license
  • A commitment to Health, Safety & Environment through compliance with all policies and procedures and completion of all required training
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Word and Excel
  • Skill to perform various duties with a high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to work overtime as needed to meet critical deadlines
  • Willing to travel approximately 98% of the time by driving. Some work is local, or within a reasonable driving distance and will not constitute overnight trips. However, longer distance sites will require hotel stays covered by Wood.
  • Registered Roofing Observer certification or willingness to obtain is desirable

Clerical Job Requirements:

  • Ability to operate a company provided smart phone with camera
  • Ability to operate and navigate a company provided laptop computer
  • Ability to upload pictures from cell phone to computer
  • Basic ability to operate PDF and Microsoft Word and Excel files
  • Ability to rename photo images and save to a project folder on the laptop
  • Ability to clearly communicate any field observations and performed tasks within a written report

Physical Job Requirements:

  • Ability to stoop, kneel, climb ladders and lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to safely drive a company provided full-size pick-up truck
  • Ability to use hands to operate field equipment and hand tools
  • Ability to use leaf blower or other foliage maintenance equipment
  • Ability to use fall protection equipment as required
  • Ability to operate a lift is desirable
