Reliability Engineer in United States

Reliability Engineers provide vision, assessment, planning, implementation and

review for refinery wide reliability processes and directives. This reliability engineering position will work collaboratively across multiple levels of the organization and with multi-discipline teams. The position will provide reliability expertise to area business units to identify needs, prioritize, and/or train business unit individuals and teams using reliability tools and processes to improve asset performance. Strong preference will be given to candidates with

technical background in the energy industry.

Key Job Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to the following:

• Develop close working relationships with Operations as a mentor to guide teams on work processes and investigations that identify/mitigate risks

• Highlight performance issues affecting reliable and sustainable asset performance.

• Analyze reliability metrics and data to predict equipment failures, provide work direction, and prevent gaps in refinery reliability performance.

• Lead efforts to provide reliability assessments for the refinery. This will range from small-single process assessments to refinery-wide cross organizational assessments.
• Use historical operations, reliability and maintenance data in analytical tools and studies to educate business units and project teams on Reliability processes to sustain and improve asset performance.
• Facilitate threat prioritization and assessment with business units to determine needs, assess risk, provide direction, and bring closure to reliability issues.
• Demonstrate fluency in the application and use of Reliability tools and analytical processes, including but not limited to any of the following: Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), streamlined Reliability Centered Maintenance (sRCM), Reliability Availability Maintainability (RAM) modeling, and/or Life Cycle Cost analysis.

• Identify and validate Bad Actor candidates using Meridium queries and cost data for Rotating Equipment, Fixed Equipment, Instrumentation, Electrical, & Analyzer disciplines.
• Provide consultation and interpretation to business units and asset teams on the results from the output of Reliability tools and techniques.
• Lead/facilitate Design for Reliability (DFR) practices for capital projects.
• Participate in turnaround planning, investigations during execution, and look-back studies.

• Develop and/or assist development of Life Cycle Plans for key Solomon units
• Serve as a liaison between the El Segundo Refinery and the Global Manufacturing Reliability Center of Excellence in matters involving standardization of Reliability tools and processes across the refining system.
 


Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or substantial data analytics experience can be used in lieu of degree

• Minimum of 5 years of related industry experience
• Proven ability to anticipate, assist, and respond quickly to area business needs that affect safe and reliable operations.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain good relationships with area business teams and consistently demonstrating leadership skills and Chevron Way behaviors when interacting with business customers and peers.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimum supervision, self-starting and proactive, and has strong organizational skills. Must be able to handle multiple assignments simultaneously, set realistic goals, and complete commitments on schedule.

• Demonstrated basic understanding of process equipment (fixed, rotating, instrument, and electrical).
• Ability to take imperfect historical data, and provide risk-based recommendations to reliability problems.

• Strong team player. Works effectively and cooperatively with others. Actively shares knowledge and skills with others. Develop and maintain steady contacts between customers and peers at other Chevron refineries.

• Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to make effective presentations to a wide range audience including management, technical, and non-technical personnel.

• Ability to proactively lead targets of opportunity for customers and recommend practical solutions that result in improved business performance.

• Experience framing projects / problems with uncertain outcomes and driving projects through closure using project management (CPDEP) principals
