About the Advanced Mobility Unit & the Project

BP is facing a significant change in its market over the coming 20 years with the advent of Electric vehicles, driverless cars and new mobility models and a consumer and customer base whose expectations and needs will fundamentally change over that period. To address that challenge, the Downstream part of the business has set up a dedicated team the Advanced Mobility Unit to help steer BP Downstream to a successful new future.

Within that remit, the Advanced Mobility unit, in partnership with the Germany retail team (ARAL) and the CARDS Business (ROUTEX), has elaborated a market entry strategy for BP into the eMobility space which consists of building a primary strategic use case in Ultra-Fast Charging with the roll-out of an HPC (High Power Charging) Backbone on ARAL premium locations associated with 3 complementary and synergistic use cases: Fleet, Residential and Destination. This project has a clear strategic impact and has been elaborated according to the approved Electrification Integrator global strategy.

The project objective is to position BP as a market leader in Germany and to provide the best possible mean to shape the market into the Fastest and most convenient EV Charging network.

Role synopsis:

The Electrification Services Product Manager has a delivery and execution role and is responsible for supporting the design, development and delivery of the key digital capabilities required to support the development of the business explained above both through internal development and external partnerships. Success is identifying the right partnerships to get a market entry at pace with a scalable solution across geographies that will allow BP to differentiate in the market. The Services Product Manager will lead the development of joint co-development opportunities with both Downstream businesses functions and 3rd parties, and will deploy and enhance the customer experience as per market and use cases needs.

The Services Product Manager, will be in liaison with the AMU Digital Electrification platform team and will follow guidance / approval from them as well as from the global product manager and the project lead. In line with the agreed strategy and program planned, the role is to ensure that the product developed meets the customer needs per use case, that it matches BPs internal digital product guidelines, that it is well-engineered as per the state-of-art and well integrated as per BPs back-end systems. His / her role is also to identify bottlenecks and misconception along the product development as well as to identify the right partners/teams for further timely and economic delivery. All activity under his / her responsibility will need to be performed in a cost consciousness spirit as well as a key contribution to future economics and profitability.

He / she will be responsible of the development and management of the product backlog including the prioritization of the different features to be developed. He / she will lead the development of business models required to prioritise or support strategic decisions along the development of the product. He/ she will be responsible of leading, coordinating and facilitating the team, including IT&S, Digital, third party provider and any other local BP teams (Retail) to make sure the development progress at pace.

Specifically, technical parts of the projects will cover:

  • Software solutions development and integration such as:
    • CPO and eMSP software solutions
    • E-roaming platforms
    • ERP
    • Plug and Charge
    • Seamless authentication

  • Payment solutions understanding
  • Load management solutions
  • Energy Management Systems
  • Product ownership and management

Key accountabilities:

Identify key software technology, both internally and externally, for the optimum delivery of the project as well as set of potential partners and suppliers in accordance with BP E&C rules. (Ethics and Compliance) Understanding of internal and external technical and digital state of art landscape to contribute towards the development of a scalable product beyond industry standards. Develop product backlog prioritization to meet the pace to market per use case in alignment with the global product manager and the central AMU Electrification Digital Platform team. Lead the teams, both internal and external, towards the completion of the project at pace, cost and quality. Anticipate on future standards and technology to optimize time and materials substance of any projects. Understand and apply the predefined technical / architectural and digital rules of BPs systems and principles Contribute to the success of the project and support the Product Manager and Project Lead to help deliver the project in due time and in the best economic ways both on the supplier side as well as on the run side. Alert the product manager, AMU program manager and key counterparties on any identified risks within his / her responsibility. Support BP Germany Roll-out on all relevant Digital and IT&S work streams working with both internal and external stakeholders. Interactions or contribute to negotiations with internal and external stakeholders.

Essential experience:

  • A good understanding of the Electrification value chain, Hardware and Software and key digital enablers such as CPO-eMSP, e-roaming platforms among others.
  • A strong experience in terms of track record on delivering actual projects or in supporting complex Project management involving both Hardware and Software solutions in the EV ecosystem, including internal and external counterparties within big corporate organizations.
  • A good experience on agile project development within the software industry.
  • A good track record of developing and delivery of customer-face projects.
  • A good understanding of agile product management methodology.
