Project Manager, Marine Repairs in Pasir Gudang, Johor, Malaysia
Job Purpose
Drive, manage and control Marine Repair projects deliverables to build and enhance project management capabilities, by optimizing MMHE resource utilisation, exercising strict cost control, meeting industry standards and customers’ satisfaction and ensuring progress payments are recovered as per the contract terms and conditions, with the objective to achieve maximum profit, to sustain MMHE’s position in the Marine Repair industry, in its quest to be a leading marine and heavy engineering organisation of choice.
Responsibilities
1) Project Management
- Drive, direct, manage and control project to ensure project’s deliverables meet the targeted operational profit margin, completed on schedule, within budget, comply to industry standards/ regulations and meet customers’ satisfaction.
2) Work Allocation (Material & Labour)
- Strategize, manage and control the project management teams work allocations either by MMHE or third parties to ensure projects (in sourced/outsourced) are carry out and completed within budget and on schedule in compliance with industry standards/ regulations, as per contractual terms & conditions, meeting MMHE/customer’s specifications and requirements.
- Manage and control third party contracts to ensure fulfilment of work packages are in tandem with the clients’ specifications and requirements with minimal risk exposure.
- Strategize and control project’s procurement activities to ensure products purchased are delivered on-time at the budgeted costs.
- Strategize, manage and control all facilities and utilities required for the project execution to ensure effective and efficient implementation of project.
3) Customer Relationship Management
- Develop and maintain business relationships with customers who include clients, authorities, partners and associates (Shipyard, Specialist, Fabricators, Designers, Vendors and Service Providers) with the objective to gain prompt delivery of products and services that meet customers’ satisfaction and to expedite payment recovery from clients.
4) Project Scheduling
- Strategize and control projects’ schedule and contingency plans to ensure that all project activities are completed on schedule and meet customers’ specifications.
5) Contract/Cost Controls
- Strategize and control all project costs to ensure project expenditures are within budget and manage any cost overrun, and negotiate with client on project change orders to resolve price and schedule changes with minimal risk exposure to MMHE.
- Manage all project contract agreements to ensure all parties abide to the contract terms and conditions and negotiate with client to minimize cost implication
- Ensure that all project’s Invoices are issued and progress payments are recovered timely and accurately as per contract terms and conditions.
6) Bidding/Tender Package Preparation
- Participate in pre-qualification tender and competitive bidding packages by providing project extension plan inputs in cost estimates, project schedule and resources availability to meet clients’ budget and completion schedule.
- Provide technical support/clarification when necessary.
7) Improvement Initiatives
- Manage the implementation of project improvement initiatives of systems & processes, infrastructure, industry best practices, competencies and capabilities to ensure service improvements and productivity objectives are achieved.
8) Progress/Performance Reporting
- Review project progress/performance reports and recommend corrective measures to rectify shortcomings (project delay, cost overrun, customers’ dissatisfaction, LTI) to MMHE management for information/ decision-making, and to clients on project status.
9) Problem Solving
- Drive, control and resolve issues of the project’s planned schedule of completion where design changes are frequent which affects the work packages and overall project schedule including procurement plan and workforce allocation.
10) HSE
- Lead implementation of HSE initiatives in Marine Repair projects and inculcate HSE in all its project departments and work area, in all its project management team members and workers, and develop HSE as MMHE work culture.
11) Work Environment
- Maintain a healthy and conducive work environment in projects that encourages cohesiveness and commitment among project management team members and workers and promote global championship mind-set to improve productivity and to maintain high standards of service.
12) Leadership
- Provide leadership direction and guidance to motivate and nurture potential qualified leaders in Marine Repair project management team members for breakthrough performance to take MMHE to greater heights.
Requirements
- Degree in Engineering coupled with 8 years’ experience in Project Management for Marine Repair works.
- Experience in planned schedule of completion where work scope changes are frequent which affects the project planting and overall project schedule including procurement plan and workforce allocation.
- Experience to control project profit margin when costs due to lack control of resources and highly unpredictable conditions.
- Excellent leadership in motivating staff in a highly laborious/demanding environment and at the same time maintaining harmonious relationship, instilling the Groups shared values, improving integrity among the cross-cultural and multi-national workforce.
- People management in working with diverse clients, multiple stakeholders, diverse work force and management team.
- Results driven, numbers savvy, proactive in resolving challenges and fluid to cope with project demands and timelines.
- Readiness to travel and to assume assigned responsibilities from time to time by superior in line with business requirements.
