What will I be doing?

Reporting to the Discipline Lead for Project Management Office (PMO) & Project Controls you will be responsible for leading the PMO function on one of our key client Programmes of work. You will also report into the JV or client organisation for delivery.

You will be responsible for the overall coordination of the Programme Management Office for one of our key clients ensuring the effective project and change management on projects to achieve beneficial change. This is a key and strategically important role requiring an organised, diligent, self-motivated individual that can make a difference within the current high performing team.

The role will be the accountable person collating the source of documentation, guidance and metrics across multiple projects. This will require change management of business-as-usual activities, taking project outputs and managing change so that outputs deliver outcomes; benefits management: defining, quantifying, measuring and monitoring benefits; stakeholder management and communications: ensuring that relationships are developed and maintained, and enabling two-way communication with all key stakeholders.

This is a leadership role which will require you to provide strategic advice and expert input. It also requires you to provide and apply advanced theoretical and practical knowledge to support the delivery of large complex programmes. You will be required to communicate and engage confidently, generating trust and working in line with Costains strategic aims.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Leadership team with activities required to develop its capabilities including setting up the PMO Vision, Mission and Goals, by providing inputs or perhaps even leading in some tasks such as creation of Project charter.
  • Establish PMO methodologies and practices
  • Support resource planning and allocation across the business, and specifically for the PMO Leadership identifying and escalating issues
  • Establish and guide the selection and prioritisation of tasks and change to ensure alignment with the benefits realisation strategy
  • Provide timely and consistent communication to stakeholders on progress, impacts and changes associated with management of the portfolio;
  • Assist in the preparation of the monthly review reports
  • Monitor and manage the Control Log through the lifecycle of the programme
  • Coordination of the of risk review and escalation of risks, issues and dependencies
  • Stakeholder management both internally and externally
  • Ensure the PMO team are following defined methodologies and practices
  • Actively seek and identify opportunities for additional business



About you

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

  • PMP/ MSP Certification preferred
  • Hold a bachelors degree or equivalent
  • Have a proactive and enthusiastic approach
  • Have at least 10 years post qualification experience in a project management and project controls role
  • Possess excellent communication skills
  • Be able to relate in a confident manner to people at all levels
  • Proven skills in the efficient and effective management of others
  • Be able to work to tight deadlines
  • Demonstrate skill in identifying, analysing and solving problems and coming up with innovative solutions
  • 10+ years of experience of managing a teams in PMO environments
  • Experience working on multidisciplinary projects, preferably in an Engineering, Procurement and Construction type organisation
  • Water, Nuclear, Oil and Gas, or similar sector experience
  • Experience in creating and communicating sales propositions

MINIMUM REQUIREMENT

  • Ability to set the strategy for complex projects and clearly communicate that through the wider team
  • Able to demonstrate the establishment and application of governance utilising business systems and commercial, risk and schedule reporting processes
  • Experience of leading planning aspects of EPC projects
  • Good experience of using and working with NEC requirements
  • Ability to manage complex programmes with respect to change
  • Good experience of risk management
  • Track record of developing a proactive, collaborative open relationship with the Customer particularly in open reporting and evaluation of project data
  • Experience of working with a complex structure of stakeholders and ability to maintain good relationships throughout.
  • Past experience of working within a PMO environment and coordination with risk and commercial managers to ensure full compliance with contractual obligations
  • A Chartered member of a relevant professional body.
