Drydocks World Dubai, a DP World company, invites applications for the above position.

Qualifications:

  • Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Law in a common law jurisdiction.
  • Desirable: Master’s Degree in Law with specialization in Maritime / Shipping / Offshore / Oil & Gas law.

Required experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years post qualification experience with at least 3 years in private practice.
  • EPC, construction and disputes experience, particularly in the maritime industry.
  • Experience in construction law gained in a shipyard or large scale construction environment.

Required Competencies:

  • High commercial acumen, project management and contract negotiation skills.
  • Ability to provide sound legal solutions that are commercially practical.
  • Ability to build strong relationships both internally and externally.
  • Ability to work independently, lead a small team and supervise others’ work where necessary.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a team player.
  • Proactive and ability to work under pressure.

Job Description:

  • Managing the day to day legal matters of the business.
  • Managing, drafting, reviewing and negotiating ship repair contracts, new building contracts, commercial agreements and pro-forma agreements.
  • Managing dispute resolution, both arbitration and litigation in relevant jurisdictions.
  • Ensure that the business of the company is conducted in accordance with its charter and relevant legislation.
  • Appointing and managing external legal counsel to ensure timely and cost effective provision of services.
  • Devise tools that facilitate the attainment of project objectives and realise the interests of stake holders.
  • Recommend improvements to departmental policy and direct the implementation of procedures and controls covering all areas of department activities so that all relevant procedural and legislative requirements are fulfilled.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement of systems, processes and practices with the objective of reducing cost, improving productivity and implementing standards commensurate with ‘international best practices’.
  • Provide ongoing mentoring and training support to both the legal and commercial department on relevant legal issues.
  • Supervise the activities and work of subordinates by providing formal and informal feedback to ensure that all work is carried out in an efficient manner and in accordance with agreed individual targets.
