Subject Matter Expert - Expatriate Tax in The Woodlands, Montgomery County, Texas, United States

Job Role Summary

The Subject Matter expert - Expatriate Tax is a key technical position in Corporate Financial Services' (CFS) Global Expatriate Payroll & Tax Services that provides guidance and support for a portolio of approximately 60 countries on the end-to-end knowledge of ExxonMobil's Expatriate Tax Guidelines including the expatriate payroll and employment tax processes.  The role includes understanding of country specific expatriate tax processes, compensation reporting requirements for global tax compliance and in-depth business process knowledge needed in order to maintain license to operate and controls

Also acting as a mentor and SME to the global payroll and accounting (PY&A) business center teams and being a focal point for Expatriate Advisors, Human Resources, Business Lines, CorporateTax, Law and Management Functional contacts in the area of the tax guidelines and expatriate employment tax while providing direct support to the Global Process Advisor/Supervisor of Expatriate Tax.

Job Responsibilities

Global Payroll tax withholding and compensation reporting oversight for expatriates

  • Administer Expatriate Tax Guidelines as designed by Human Resources
  • Administer Hypothetical Tax global process with third-party vendor
  • Interface with payroll and accounting operators located in Global Business Centers outside the U.S.
  • Interface with third party payroll vendors on expatriate payroll tax compliance requirements
  • Have familiarity with country federal, state/province, local, social, health, unemployment, etc. payroll tax compliance and reporting
  • Understand payroll tax process controls and recomment improvements
  • Understand home and host country concepts associated with expatriate compensation and payroll tax
  • Identify internal and external sources of relevant information and communicate impacts within the process
  • Understand trailing tax issues created by stocvk awards granted to employees on expatriate assignments
  • Conduct or identity relevant training needed to grow and sustain expatriate payroll tax expertise
  • Support gobal expatriate tax vendor on end-to-end tax return and compensation reporting process (shadow/memo reporting)
  • Support new venture country operational and contractual set-ups for expatriates
  • Participate in global process networks as required

Payroll tax reporting oversight

  • Maintain a working knowledge of required expatriate tax return filings by country
  • Have familiarity with global totalization requirements for home/host country social security payroll processes

Other

  • Identify ways to minimize payroll tax costs incurred by the company
  • Participate in expatriate tax receivable discussions with employees per the tax guidelines
  • Participate or provide suppoer to internal and external audits concerning expatriate tax matters
Minimum Requirements
  • Minimum University Bachelors or Master's degree in accounting or finance, with preferred emphasis on Taxation
  • Working for an international company or a big four accounting firm with direct work experience in expatriate employment tax with an understanding of global expatriate payroll and mobility processes
  • A minimum of two years of relevant work experience
  • Ability to influence without authority and to work in a global multicultural team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multipe priorities and stakeholders
  • Strong analytical and communication skills both verbal and written
  • Strong customer service with ability to prioritize to avoid escalations
  • Attention to accuracy and detail, problem solving skills, ability to meet priorities and deadlines
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work with various levels of Management across different georgraphic locations and seniority
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including advanced Excel tools for data analysis
  • Flexible and adaptable to various working hours and overtime given global scope of position

Preferred Skills, Abilities, & Knowledge:
  • Masters of Taxation or Certified Public Accountant a plus
  • Able to travel domestically and internationally
  • Experience with SAP ECC6 HR/Payroll modules would be of benefit
