THE ROLE

A-Gas is the world leader in the supply and lifecycle management of refrigerant, blowing agents, industrial gases, halon and fire suppressants used in the HVAC, refrigeration, insulation, solvent, manufacturing and medical sectors.

A-Gas in South Africa has an opening for an Operations Manager, based at its local head office in Cape Town, South Africa. In this role, the Operations Manager will be responsible for ensuring continuous improvement, SIOP, setting and maintenance of professional standards and legislative compliance in production, stock management, logistics, technical operations and SQE to ensure the efficient operation of the South African business. The role will also ensure that our Zero Harm culture is driven and promoted at every opportunity.

You will have a sound technical background in engineering, a strong safety and quality focus and have excellent people and project management skills.

The role will report to the Managing Director and be an integral part of the management team.

What else will you do?

• Develop the operations strategic plan to deliver business objectives for operations, continually tracking and driving initiatives and outcomes.
• Develop investment cases for investment in plant and equipment to meet current and future demands.
• Drive operational efficiency and effectiveness for operational excellence and continuous improvement.
• Drive SQE initiatives and activities within the business, continually promoting and engaging our genuine commitment to zero harm and responding to critical issues.
• Mentor and drive team excellence, including project management, quality audits and training, with accountability for the output and performance of the team.
• Own and drive engagement levels of the operations teams to create a team that is known for its innovation and ability to execute, identifying and owning local and global initiatives to optimize quality and customer service.
• Own and drive the SIOP process.
• Drive engagement with customers and service providers to promote understanding and improved customer service.

THE PERSON

The successful applicant will have at least 8 – 10 years’ experience working within the gas or aligned industries, of which 3 + should have been operating at a management level with a track record of success. Along with a relevant engineering degree, you will have an understanding of Lean/Six sigma principles as well as have operating experience with regulated systems such as ISO <phone number removed> and 18000. Whilst not essential, exposure to SAP would be advantageous.

LOCATION

Based in Montague Gardens, Cape Town, South Africa with regular local travel and some international travel.
