Manager of Marketing & Communications in Texas-Houston, United States

Job Overview:

The Communications and Marketing Manager will be responsible for providing all communications and marketing support for McDermotts Lummus Technology business. This includes developing communications and messaging strategies and formulating and implementing plans based on these strategies. Key interfaces of the group include senior management, business development, as well as technical groups and functional management.

The position has a matrixed reporting structure, reporting functionally to the Sr. Director of Area Communications and Marketing and operationally to the Sr. Vice President of Lummus Technology.  The successful candidate will be a versatile professional, possessing a demonstrated blend of internal and external communications and marketing experience.

McDermott's Lummus Technology is a leading licensor of proprietary petrochemicals, refining, gasification and gas processing technologies, and a supplier of proprietary catalysts and related engineering. With a heritage spanning more than 100 years, encompassing approximately 3,100 patents and patent applications, Lummus Technology provides one of the industrys most diversified technology portfolios to the hydrocarbon processing sector.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Manage and execute Lummus public relations and marketing strategy with appropriate metrics and goals to ensure that the program is generating awareness for McDermott and its projects and services, as well as developing increased awareness around the companys leadership in the target market segments
  • Manage Lummus internal communications strategy and execution; building and maintaining effective/cooperative working relationships with key members of the Lummus management and functional leadership; as well as writing and editing internal communications
  • Lead the internal document approval processes for Lummus, including drafting announcements and securing all necessary approvals
  • Seek and identify opportunities to leverage the companys Intranet and all other internal communications tactics to drive employee engagement, satisfaction and productivity
  • Develop networks throughout the business to capture important company news and information, develop content and/or output, and filter through corporate, if applicable, such as, but not limited to:
    • Local news
    • Corporate headlines
    • Press releases
    • Announcements
    • Presentations, technical articles, conference papers
    • Marketing collateral
  • Serve as the contact point for Lummus marketing requests, lead messaging development appropriate to product line and/or location
  • Provide support to events such as executive meetings, visits, presentations, etc.
  • Handle customer requests such as approval of marketing and communication materials for internal or external release
  • Provide support for other Lummus-driven activities such as, volunteer/charity/ community events, recruitment campaigns, internal messaging campaigns, etc.
  • Supervise Communications Specialist for Chevron Lummus Global, McDermotts joint venture with Chevron

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in Communications and Marketing.
  • Bachelors degree required in Communications or other related area; minimum of 10 years of experience.
  • The ideal candidate should have excellent written and oral communications skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven ability to execute external and internal communications strategies that are aligned with business goals and objectives
  • Experience should include news writing, speechwriting, employee communications and proofreading ability
  • Experience working in a publicly-traded company preferred
  • Experience with process Technology preferred
  • Experience in oil & gas industry preferred
  • Experience working in a public relations firm a bonus
