Shell Trading and Supply (T&S) integrates a worldwide trading network with an unsurpassed global portfolio in crude oil, refined products, natural gas, electrical power, chemicals, and environmental products.  Our main locations are in London, Houston, Singapore, Dubai, and Rotterdam. T&S is one of the worlds largest energy traders and a key part of the Royal Dutch Shell portfolio.

Shell Energy - Europe & Environmental Products (SE-EE) markets and trades natural gas and power across Europe (and potentially Africa) and drives the development of the Environmental Products business globally.  We are growing fast with the expansion of power and cleaner fuels as part of Shells strategy to thrive through the Energy Transition.  SE-EE's counterparties and customers encompass major resource holders of gas, upstream producers, investment banks, offset developers, compliance entities, trading houses, utilities and aggregators, power generators and large industrial and commercial energy users. 
 

Whats the role?

The General Manager Market Analysis is a newly created role which reports directly to the Vice President of SE-EE.  The role will be accountable for developing and integrating fundamental analysis across commodities, with a specific emphasis on European gas and power markets and Environmental Products globally.  The time periods of interest will range from real-time (intra-day) through to multi-year.  The goal is to produce forecasts of supply-demand and price formation using stochastic and scenario-based approaches that support the trading and investment horizons of our business.  

A core objective will be the realization of sustained, competitive edge in forecasting.  Insights will be developed and used in close collaboration with front line traders, book builders, structurers, and business developers to underpin trading, deal-making, and investment decisions.   The ability to effectively harness new digital technologies and big data will be a key element in achieving this objective. 

In this role, you will be expected to:
 
  • Recruit, lead and develop a high performing team with a culture of making a material difference in a challenging dynamic commercial environment
  •  Develop models and use in-depth fundamental market knowledge to generate and champion monetisable insights 
  • Drive the development of relevant capabilities, especially around processes and systems, to deliver best-in-class data ingestion, analytics, and visualisations
  • Quickly get to grips with the operational aspects of the role, plus the significant change journey, particularly with regards to building out the Power fundamentals analysis, currently only emerging within SE-EE
  • Contribute to the overall success of the Shell T&S and SE-EE as part of SE-EE's Senior Leadership Team
  • Support and embed SE-EEs ways of working and One Team mentality through creating collaborative and cohesive teams
  • Work closely with the analysis teams in other Shell T&S businesses and New Energies to share insights and best practices in analysis and modeling infrastructures
  • Develop contacts at all levels across Shell and with industry bodies to ensure Shell remains at the cutting edge
  • Master a highly complex business, leading in a difficult and sometimes unknown and dynamic regulatory, legal and competitive environment

Job Requirements:

What we need from you
 
  • Demonstrated high commercial capacity and acumen, including strong analytical skills developed over 10+ years preferably within an energy trading environment
  • Ability to drive a high-performance team, while flourishing within a trading environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills/ability to maintain relations at difficult interfaces with other Trading businesses and other parts of Shell
  • Able to articulate a strategic vision and build support for that vision in the wider team and organization
