REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS


Directly reports to Plant Manager. Takes directionfrom the Maintenance Team Leader.


POSITION PURPOSE


This position is responsible for thetechnical activities in the areas of instrumentation and control and electricalsystems. The primary responsibility of this job is to conduct I&C functionssafely, reliably, efficiently and in full compliance with all applicable laws,regulations, policies, and procedures.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Performsinstrument calibrations, field checks, troubleshooting, and maintenance oncontrol equipment or other equipment, as assigned. Maintains and installscontrol, monitoring, alarm and indicating systems and their individualcomponents. This includes, but is not limited to, protective relays, turbinecontrols, voltage regulators, inverters and battery charger controls, motors,lighting and grounding.


Performsmaintenance on 4160 volt and 480 volt equipment, breakers and switchgear.

Performsupkeep of the maintenance management system and other administrative tasks asassigned. Maintain logs of problems, repairs, and downtime. Maintenance of DCISand PLC system.


Performsand evaluates plant tests.

Maintainsall facility equipment through corrective, predictive, and planned activities.


Monitorsprojects in regards to schedule, manpower, material needs, and safety asassigned.

Maybe required to perform tests, repairs, and modifications while systems areonline.


Identifiesdesign improvements and/or problems; recommends and installs modificationsnecessary for resolution.

Followssafety/environmental rules and regulations. Implements safe working practicesand immediately identifies hazards and recommends and/or implement repairs.


Workswith outside contractors during overhauls or at other times, as required.

Trainsothers to gain knowledge as required. Provides training (safety and I&C) ofnew hires, as needed.  Receives trainingto further knowledge, prepare for advancement and maintain safety awareness.


Assistsin the investigation of plant problems, incidents, accidents, and unusualevents; provides input and recommendations for reports and follow-up plans.

Writes,reviews and revises maintenance and related procedures.


Troubleshootsequipment and systems, and provides/performs corrective action.  Performs failure analysis to determine the causeof equipment/system malfunction.

Completesall training/qualifications required to be an I&C Technician. 


Available to work overtime both scheduledand unscheduled, on days off and beyond regular work schedule and to performshift work, including holidays,  nightsand weekends, when required. 

Attends to housekeeping at the end of eachjob/task.  Responsible for maintaining theplant (ex: personal desk, department and plant areas) in a clean and neatmanner.


Performsother duties as required.

What you will bring


Technical and Industry Experience 

Ability to read, write and speak in the English language and perform basic mathematical computations; high school diploma or equivalent preferred. Associates degree/certification in electrical or controls field preferred.

Five years of experience as an industrial electrician or 5 years experience as an I&C Technician in a power plant environment.

Knowledge of large generators, transformers, 4160/480 volt switchgear and systems, instruments, controls, and relaying equipment.

Knowledge of troubleshooting techniques.

Ability to read and understand P&IDs, electrical, and mechanical drawings.

Ability to pass respirator fit tests to use respiratory protective equipment at all times.
 

Good communication skills both verbal and written.

Proficient use of Microsoft Excel and Word.

Background in electricity, electronics, and instrumentation functions.

Proficient use of standard test equipment.

Ability to work at various heights from aerial lifts, ladders and scaffolding, and in areas of high noise and temperature extremes.

Demonstrated ability to locate, electrical troubleshooting, instrument calibration, and programming complex electrical equipment. 

Ability to work scheduled hours, overtime both scheduled and unscheduled, on days off, and beyond regular work schedule.  Ability to perform shift work, including holidays, nights, and weekends, when required. 

Ability to deal with outside contractors and vendors.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbent may be required to work in conditions where hazardous material and /or toxic fumes could be present. Additionally, the incumbent will be exposed to areas of high heat, loud noise, steam, combustible gases, rotating machinery, and other conditions normally encounters in an operating generation facility.
