Our Environment, Maritime and Resilience business provides a focus for advising our clients on sustainability issues including renewable energy, low carbon economies, impacts of climate change and waste and resource management. Our environmental capabilities comprise of in excess of 1300 staff based predominantly in the UK, but with reach into the Middle East and India.

 

 

To meet our growing UK business needs and future development aspirations we are currently have an opportunity for an experienced Regulatory Professional who has a background in environmental legislation and regulation, to be based in our Edinburgh office as part of our Water Environment team.

The successful individual will support a range of projects for clients in major public and private sector organisations in the UK, Ireland and beyond where maintaining compliance with environmental regulations is essential. The successful candidate will become part of a respected and ambitious company with excellent career prospects and international opportunities. Responsibilities include:

 

• Providing environmental and regulatory input and guidance on the Water Framework Directive, the Water Environment (Controlled Activities) (Scotland) Regulations 2011, as amended (CAR), Waste Management Licensing regulations and Guidance for Pollution Prevention to support project activities.

 

• Supporting clients with obtaining any necessary environmental authorisation, such as CAR licences, waste management licences or exemptions.

 

• Writing and reviewing technical reports.

 

• Assisting with task and project management to ensure the timely delivery of projects.

 

• Providing general environmental support to the wider team.

Essential:

 

• Knowledge of waste and water policies, legislation and guidance in Scotland.

 

• Knowledge and understanding of the Water Framework Directive.

 

• An understanding of the Controlled Activities Regulations and how these regulations are enforced.

 

• Knowledge of other environmental regulations such as waste management licensing, pollution prevention and control.

 

• Proven ability of working with regulatory bodies such as SEPA and the Environment Agency.

 

• Good communication, report writing and presentation skills.

 

• Demonstrable knowledge of liaising with project managers.

 

• Recognised degree level qualification with a Masters or 2nd degree preferable.

 

 

Desired:

 

• Demonstrable knowledge of Road or Rail infrastructure.

 

• Proven ability in Environmental consulting.

 

• Demonstrable knowledge of Waste management, including understanding of WAC analysis.

 

• Environmental monitoring skills including water quality data analysis and assessment.

 

• Secondary skills and interest in the wider waste and water environment sector.

 

• UK driving licence.

 

• Member of CIWEM, CIWM or another relevant professional body and be working towards Chartership.
