You will be responsible for acquiring and managing surface rights and land access agreements necessary to support operational and growth plans for our Renewable Energy Assets across Canada.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Provide surface land services including sustainment and expansion of land and project assets
  • Apprise the business of upcoming issues, risks and opportunities related to surface rights within the various areas the renewable energy group operates
  • Lead and facilitate communications, public involvement and negotiations with external stakeholders, including but not limited to contractors, land-owners, permit agencies and utilities
  • Prepare surface land acquisition project cost estimates
  • Compile and update land maps that display pertinent land information for project and prospects
  • Deliver data, processes and governance improvement projects that protect and maintain Suncors land rights
  • Support the identification of new opportunities and identify strategies to generate cost reduction
  • Develop projects working through external concerns, regulatory compliance and business objectives
  • Build and maintain strong positive relationships with an emphasis on teamwork, with all land team members as well as internal and external clients/partners
  • Utilize Suncors Operational Discipline Behaviours by seeking knowledge and understanding, adhering to procedures, surfacing problems, expecting accountability and collaborating with others

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Eight years of surface landman experience with a minimum of three years experience working within renewable energy
  • An Alberta Land Agents Licence
  • The ability to deliver on large-scale utility energy development projects
  • Strong project management, problem solving and organizational skills
  • Experience managing external vendor teams negotiation and consultation of land rights
  • The proven ability to lead multiple and changing priorities under tight deadlines with strong decision-making ability
  • A strong sense of ownership, superior leadership and communication skills which allow you to interact well with all partners
  • Efficient computer skills using land and GIS related programs
  • An understanding of provincial and municipal permitting requirements related to energy generation projects
  • The ability to develop creative strategies to improve current and future value of developed and undeveloped assets
  • History of valuable negotiations, acquisitions, consultations and stakeholder engagement programs

Preference for:

  • A post-secondary certificate in land, business related studies or an equivalent education

Where youll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 6th Ave S.W.
  • Travel to Suncors Renewable Energy asset areas across Canada will be required
