Job Description:

As Shell New Energies grows its activities in Renewable Power, we are recruiting into our Global Growth & Partnerships (GGP) team, which sits within Strategic Business Development (SBD), to manage efforts in understanding and engaging with the Chinese market, building relationships with key stakeholders, representing Shells commercial perspectives in Renewable Power, developing approaches for market access and entry, and originating partnership and/or investment opportunities.  This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned professional with expertise in the Chinese renewable power sector, a keen understanding of Chinese market design/fundamentals and business models, and strong in-market commercial and transactional experience.  The position will report to the Head of Global Growth & Partnerships and work with diverse groups internally and externally.  SBD/GGP sets the commercial direction for Shell New Energies Renewable Power line of business, as well as driving market development, new product development, and the identification and execution of market opportunities, globally.

Responsibilities:
 
  • Bring and maintain an on-the-ground expert understanding of the Chinese power/renewable power market fundamentals, market design, market demand, business models, and policy/regulatory trends
  • Establish and foster senior-level relationships with key stakeholders related to the Chinese power/renewable power sector
  • Represent and advocate the commercial perspectives of Shell New Energies in Renewable Power within the Chinese market
  • Analyze and frame approaches for market access and entry within the Chinese renewable power sector, in alignment with Shell New Energys Renewable Power objectives, and as part of Renewable Powers strategy-setting processes
  • Coordinate closely with key counterpart groups/functions within Renewable Power, New Energies, and more broadly within Shell.  Close and collaborative working relationships with the Shell China country chair and country transition manager, Global Advocacy, Shell Energy, New Fuels teams are key priorities
  • Originate and drive partnership and/or investment opportunities, in line with the strategic direction established for Chinese market access and entry   
  • Be a credible and compelling spokesperson for the Chinese market within Renewable Power and the wider Shell New Energies group
  • Bring Chinese power sector expertise, market insight, and creativity
  • Comfort with ambiguous, undefined, and complex situations, and the ability to create structure and define/drive direction and execution activities
  • Manage cross-functional teams, including members of various internal groups within and outside of Shell New Energies, and complex business dimensions
  • Ability to synthesize complex issues and insights into high-quality, concise, focused, and persuasive presentations for diverse audiences
  • Contribute to reporting and other internal administrative processes

Job Requirements:

  • Masters Degree in a relevant discipline, with an MBA from top program preferred
  • A minimum of 15 years of professional experience in China, with at least 10 years in the power sector, of which a minimum of 5 years is in renewable power (preferably with solar and wind power experience)
  • Expert understanding of the Chinese power/renewable power sector, including policies/regulations, market design, business models, and key stakeholders
  • Credibility and a strong professional network within the Chinese power industry
  • Excellent commercial acumen, with creativity/entrepreneurial approach, economic/financial understanding, and an execution mindset
  • Strong synthesis and presentation skills
  • Ability to represent Renewable Power/Shell New Energies
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships within a complex, global corporation: some corporate stamina is required.
  • Complete fluency English and Mandarin, both spoken and written
  • A team player attitude
