Foster Wheeler Energy is currently recruiting for a Contract Manager, to be responsible for developing the overall Project Contracting Strategy for a major PMC project.

Project Summary:

The Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) is implementing a major project, the Clean Fuel Project (CFP) which comprises the upgrade of two existing refineries. The Clean Fuels Project is a major upgrade and expansion of the existing Mina Al-Ahmadi (MAA) and Mina Abdullah (MAB) refineries. The objective is to increase the overall throughput by 264,000 bpsd to 800,000 bpsd and to increase conversion of fuel oil to higher value products to meet expected market demand and specs for low sulphur content transport fuels. KNPC plan to award the Clean Fuels Project as multiple EPC contracts and require Project Management Consultancy (PMC) teams to manage them in each of the successful EPC contractor offices.


  • Communicate commercial / contractual risks, threats and issues to both Foster Wheeler and KNPC
  • Effective team work with members of the FW core management team in Kuwait and KNPC and with the contract and project teams managing the packages
  • The ability to work alone and in the team to achieve objectives and deliver results;
  • Effective work planning
  • Competent with MS Office, standard business software and the use of metrics to monitor and report on all tasks in progress
  • The ability to overview situations, review and evaluate, and provide appropriate advice and guidance
  • Problem solving at a strategic level, working with others to reach a resolution
  • To establish and maintain long-term working relationships with KNPC and EPC Contractors
  • Support the commercial teams in reviewing tenders and negotiation of contracts, optimising price and quality against risk
  • Negotiate contract terms, pricing and payment schedule, ensuring that the agreements with the EPC Contractors meet KNPC's contracting requirements
  • Intervene, analyse, manage and resolve business conflicts between FW, KNPC and the EPC Contractors
  • To report efficiently and effectively on contractual issues having the potential to materially threaten the overall program
  • To provide both advice and support other teams in terms of the legal threats and obligations placed
  • To participate as a member of the management team playing an active role in the development of the Project
  • To demonstrate leadership in fitting with the role within the overall core management team and with KNPC


  • Degree Qualified
  • Extensive experience in commercial and contractual
  • Recent experience in PMC/EPC organisations in the field of Refinery/Petrochemicals industries
  • Must have handled contract administration work for major projects of value not less than US$500 million each
  • Extensive exposure to high value complex engineering projects
  • Track record in leading a commercial team
  • Previous Foster Wheeler experience prefferred but not essential
