The Company:
Our major oil and gas client is seeking a Telecommunications Engineer for a 2-3 year opportunity in Houston, TX.
The Role:
Responsibilities:
To provide the Telecommunications input to proposals for new FPSO/FSO vessels.
To produce FEED studies, detailed design and procurement, fabrication, FAT, Hook-up and commissioning support, in the capacity of Telecommunications Engineer
To provide engineering support to Production Contractors fleet of leased FPSO and FSO vessels.
To undertake surveys of existing tankers for FPSO conversion projects and site inspections
To ensure that the telecommunications philosophies and standards are consistently applied across projects.
To engineer and manage all aspects of project execution relating to Telecommunications Systems, including the basic design, detailed design, procurement, FAT, construction and commissioning.
To demonstrate a sound commercial awareness and ability to find the most cost effective, fit for purpose solutions, along with ability to design systems to varying levels of complexity, depending on geographical location and Client requirements.
To maintain awareness of latest industry developments in Telecommunications Systems, including new hardware, software and suppliers, and also new Legislation, Certifying Authority Rules.
To participate in project Design Reviews, HAZOPs, etc as necessary and ensure consistency of design between projects.
To provide input to bidder lists for the hardware and software scope of supply for the project.
To attend the Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) for telecommunications system equipment, in order to confirm that the system supplied meets the project telecommunications system philosophies and client requirements.
To visit the relevant construction shipyards as and when required to monitor the construction of the telecommunications systems, in order to confirm that the installation methods meet the required standards.
To manage activities of site based telecommunications personnel providing direct technical support when necessary.
To monitor telecommunications system construction progress, liaising with the Construction Manager to identify/solve potential problems, which may impact on vessel delivery.
To attend the yard commissioning trials and, if required, the offshore start-up of the FPSO/FSO to confirm satisfactory performance of the telecommunications systems.
To provide ad-hoc support to PC fleet of FPSOs and FSOs. Work scope will vary depending on nature of operational problems.
To input to basic and detailed design of modifications to FPSO vessels
Review and comment on deliverables.
To provide offshore assistance during start-up and performance tests, as required.
Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Requirements:
Degree Telecommunications/Electronics Engineering, or suitable experience
5 years minimum design, construction and commissioning of offshore telecommunications systems.
Software Skills Required: MS Office, MS Visio.
