Job Description

Foster Wheeler are looking for a senior Telecommunications Engineer to be based at its Reading office to provide Telecommunication Discipline expertise for the engineering and design of on shore oil & gas plant and facilities.

The role is challenging and diverse, as the telecommunications systems include both fixed telecoms systems and radio systems.


Requirements

Candidates should have suitable and relevant experience in a senior telecommunications design & engineering role.
Chartered Engineer status (or working towards)
BICSI RCDD accreditation is an advantage

In addition the telecoms engineer shall have experience of carrying out FEED, EPC and PMC work in one or more of the following industry sectors :-

Oil and gas
Petrochemical
Refining
LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas)
Power generation plant
Off-shore
Pharmaceutical


Responsibilities

A high standard and quality of work with respect to engineering and design deliverables.

Execute projects in line with the discipline design instructions, quality plan, technical work practices and procedures.
Knowledge of the Telecommunication Discipline with respect to the following project phases :-
Feasibility / concept studies
Front End Engineering Design (FEED)
Detail engineering within Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) projects in a multi disciplined project team environment
PMC / technical advisor role
Knowledge of the Telecommunication discipline for the following technical aspects of projects
Telecommunication principals
Codes and standards and their application
Structured cabling and network design
Data and voice systems, Radio, telephone systems, WAN, LAN
Safety systems, PA/GA,
Security systems, CCTV, Access systems,
Telecommunication studies and calculations
Plant design and equipment layout
Specification, evaluation and procurement of equipment and materials
Review and approve supplier documentation
Comfortable working in a multi disciplined project environment, to produce deliverables on schedule, of the correct quality and technical content.
Chair technical meetings and presentations to clients were called upon
Keep upto date with the latest technological advancements and best practices within the Telecommunication specialisation
Conversant with QA/QC requirements and standards
Facilitate work share project execution with our associated offices
Raise technical and execution issues to the Chief engineer within the department for

The Individual

Suitable and relevant experience for the level applied for in Telecommunication engineering or similar engineering role with a good track record.

Willingness to accept responsibility and to work independently of direct day to day supervision
Ability to guide and direct other, less experienced engineers.
Strong character familiar with site based projects
