Key aims and objectives
To delivery the safety studies required to ensure that projects and particular change proposals carried out by the delivery team for Assets have the associated risks reduced to as low as is reasonably practicable and at least meet current legislative requirements
To act as the safety engineering and verification focal point for particular modification and design jobs/projects carried out by the delivery design team
Responsible for managing safety engineering activities for all modifications on all installations within one of three asset groups or a major project, with overall value up to £100million
For the modifications, responsible for managing a safety engineering team of senior and junior Engineers, and arranging support from subcontractors and specialist consultants
Assisting the client with support to regulatory bodies and agencies
Prime responsibilities and duties
Achieve safety standards as defined in personal performance contract
Responsible for assessing effectiveness of working practices and systems with a view to continuously improving systems, personal and team performance
Carry out work in accordance with project Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality systems
Produce various safety engineering (and legislative compliance) studies under the instruction (with minimal guidance) of the Principal Safety Engineer
Review multi-discipline documents to ensure ALARP designs have been adopted
Conduct risk assessments and risk reviews in accordance with existing procedures
Represent the safety team at kick-off meetings, progress and design review meetings for the project or change proposal designs
Preparation of CTR estimates for the safety engineering studies
Delivering quality, cost effective and timely engineering services in a demanding environment of change, short interval planning and conflicting priorities
Reporting progress against schedule to the Head of Safety
Agency Job Description Qualifications/Training
Essential:
HND or equivalent in appropriate Engineering subject
Desirable:
UK Bachelors Degree or equivalent in appropriate engineering subject
Associate member of appopriate engineering institution
Experience
Essential:
Highly experienced engineer with sound technical background and expertise
Experienced in the use of appropriate codes of practice, standards and relevant sections of statutory documentation
Highly experienced in use of design and assessment methods used within discipline
Experienced in use of analytical methods used within discipline including theoretical background for analysis programs
Experienced in planning, progress monitoring, forecasting and reporting
Competent in commercial, contractual and administrative aspects of engineering
Experienced in estimating man-hours and materials for most aspects of work
Experienced in working with other disciplines and sections to meet delivery dates
Highly experienced in quality control requirements and quality assurance for engineering work
Experienced in design safety / environmental requirements, procedures and responsibilities for both self and subordinates Competent in leading, supervising and the organisation of a small / medium sized single discipline team within a project
Desirable:
Capable of generating a co-operative team based culture for groups under his / her control
Knowledge of personnel issues and aspirations of subordinates
Able to take a lead in motivation, training and ongoing development of subordinates
Able to perform a major role in setting group / discipline objectives
Personal qualities, aptitudes and skills
High profile engineer respected for past achievements
