PRINCIPAL PRODUCTION CHEMIST

An immediate opening for a Principal Production Chemist in Aberdeen.

The company serves the oil & gas industry in developing reservoir-driven solutions covering the full asset life cycle, from the earliest phases of project development through abandonment. They work to find and maximise reserves; increase production rates and recovery factors; select, define, execute field development plans and analyse acquisition and divestiture options. The consultancy division offers technical, commercial and strategic advice to the petroleum sector. The company’s expertise is the business of petroleum, Exploration, development and production evaluation and operations, field development and rehabilitation, Reserves and resources reporting requirements or statutory reporting or financing purposes, Due diligence property evaluation and valuation for acquisition, divestiture or dispute resolution, Midstream and downstream facilities and economic evaluation, Advice to Sovereigns on petroleum licensing, depletion and fiscal policy and maximising resource potential. They are expanding their global operations.

This is a leading consultancy and has formed strong links with many of oil companies and is well known for providing outsourced services by the introduction of the Core Team business model. This is a multi discipline team who are permanently assigned to support a single client across a range of continuous project activities. Based in the main offices these teams draw from local peer support and specialist expertise from teams such as Geomechanics, Production Chemistry, Petrophysics and Specialist Geophysics.

Responsibilities: The role covers design work, scope planning and troubleshooting studies, and operations support in all aspects of production chemistry and flow assurance (eg phase separation, scale, corrosion, hydrates, wax, asphaltene) ranging from the reservoir to well, flowline, and topsides to export. Chemical requirements and treatments associated with developing marginal fields and thereby securing life-of-field productivity. Shall give impartial advice on chemical vendor performance, contracts and chemical costs. Flow assurance in gas and oil wells, including wax and asphaltenes mitigation, hydrate prevention, separation, topsides chemicals, SRP, Water injection (PWRI), Naphthenate control, water shut-off methods, EOR techniques, scale prediction / management and scale squeeze design.

Skill Requirements:

Technical: Critical elements of the role will include: Analysis of client problems and formulation of appropriate study based workflows in order to revert with corrective actions, recommendation and future operations of production chemistry related matters and flow assurance (eg phase separation, scale, corrosion, hydrates, wax, asphaltene). Competencies in Production Optimisation / Production Technical Limit studies related to the production chemistry discipline. Project management and design of subsurface chemical treatment operations such as scale squeezes, chemical water shut off. Production chemistry basis of design for new field developments. Niche Chemistry study areas, CO2, Reservoir souring, Materials & Heavy oil knowledge would be advantageous. Produced water management, environmental studies and advice on UKCS, DECC regulatory conformance. Corrosion rate assessment and downhole materials selection. A working knowledge of offshore operations, engineering and all related matters e.g. equipment, materials procedures, safety, etc. Have hands-on experience in managing oilfield chemicals, scale and corrosion, microbiological abatement. Software modelling experience, ie in Scale, Corrosion, Hydrate, Multiflash, PVT packages etc is an advantage.

Quality & Project Management. Contribute to delivery of projects in line with company policy. Participate in: Contract Review Meetings; contract review stage of projects or Reviews. Ensure technical contribution meets the required standard before passing to Project Manager. Complies with Project Management standards and encourage others to do likewise. Ensure exposure and risks on projects are minimised. Peer reviews and mentors junior personnel. Provides leadership on projects, works closely and supports the Production Chemistry Team Leader. Enhanced Project Management skills. Participation in Multi-discipline teams.

Business Development. Enable efficient and effective commercial business delivery through: Working directly with the client to assess their needs and devise solutions that can be implemented successfully for them where required. In particular contribute to opportunity review, screening and selection as part of ongoing business activity where appropriate. Assisting relevant colleagues with building and implementing local business development strategies for clients as required. Contribute to the development of the business in the UK and internationally through positive networking with clients, peers, colleagues and industry experts wherever possible.

Education & Experience: Relevant degree/Masters or equivalent qualification. Excellent analytical skills. Good communication skills especially in both spoken and written English. Sound judgement. Accountability . Real team player with excellent Co-ordinating and planning skills. Capable of handling multiple tasks simultaneously. Ability to work largely unsupervised.
