Job Description

VC 8370 - Sustainable Development Advisor


* Support the Biodiversity Protection Coordinator in the provision of advice on Biodiversity and Sustainable Development issues. These will include survey design, planning, logistics, verify environmental inputs to EIAs and major project documentation, defining key species to be addressed as main target for Biodiversity Action Plan.
* It is also intended to promote the Biodiversity Team and the Sustainable Development in its broadest context notably linked to HSE issues, social programmes, public relations and other relevant areas of The Company's business activities.



Responsibilities:


* Assisting and supporting the Biodiversity Preservation Coordinator in planning, finalizing and implementing the Company's Biodiversity Action Plan and the Company's Biodiversity Strategy, identifying threats and define accurate preventing measures and/or improve those already existing.
* Supporting the management of contracts for wildlife fieldworks and reporting in line with Company policies and standards.
* Improving existing environmental projects based on recommendations and suggestions from field work activity responses.
* Supporting in managing, planning and implementing identified key species monitoring surveys, with the main focus on Red Data Book list species. Target groups shall include birds, mammals (seals, saiga) and fish related projects.
* Cooperating with local authorities and international organizations (e.g. CEP, IUCN, CISS, IPIECA, UNDP) in developing and implementing a Biodiversity Action Plan.
* Supporting ENI Sustainable Development group in developing and implementing the use of Integrated Biodiversity Assessment Tools (IBAT) end participating in widening the World Database of Protected Areas, focusing on North Caspian marine protected areas and natural reserves.
* Develop measures to minimize/prevent any impact after identification of activities which may be a harm to the Caspian wildlife and environment.
* Supporting the visibility of ongoing Biodiversity activities sharing them throughout the Company, within the O&G sector and at public level.
* Cooperate with other Departments (Remote Sensing/GIS, Logistics) in developing Biodiversity strategies and implementing existing Biodiversity tasks.
* Planning and implementing local awareness and education activities with the support of Private Relation and Welfare Department.
* Assuming responsibility for quality assurance/control in all aspects of the implementation of wildlife monitoring programmes, ensuring appropriate levels of documentation at all stages.
* Participating in EIA process for all principal phases of the North Caspian project, including scientific workshops and stakeholder consultation.
* Carrying out quality assessments on EIAs and environmental components of other major project documents with the main focus on Biodiversity issues.
* Preparing and presenting summary materials on monitoring results, EIAs and other environmental issues for stakeholder consultation meetings.
* Assisting in the preparation of responses to enquiries and claims regarding company environmental protection and performance.
* Preparing the handing to other ventures of acquired information on Biodiversity strategies.


Staff Responsibilities
The job holder is responsible for the safety of  the personnel assigned to support the Survey Programmes.

Requirements:


* The job holder must be a Graduate in Marine Biology, Ecology or related environmental discipline with 2 - 5 years experience  working as environmental scientist (preferably on ecological issues within the oil & gas industry and/or in the Former Soviet Union / Caspian region).
* The job holder will have practical experience in conducting environmental surveys, biodiversity studies and EIAs implementation. He/she shall a knowledge of the human (shipping, fishing) or biological (birds or marine mammals) environment and a suitable biological/ecological background to suggest improvement and as well as the ability of taking part to fieldworks.


Required Competencies:
* Knowledge of the offshore industry, especially its processes and environmental impacts.
* Knowledge of the North Caspian region, and in particular, an understanding of regulator and community concerns.
* Knowledge of international requirements, practices and standards for environmental surveys and EIAs. 
* Good inter-personal and organizational skills.


Location: Atyrau, Kazakhstan. Resident


Duration: 12 Months


Language: English (Verbal and Written). Knowledge of Russian and Kazakh languages is preferable.


Gross Day Rate: USD 845


Working Conditions:


Mainly office based, but will be required to spend some time offshore
