Job Description

Purpose / Role: Conduct detailed process design on oil and gas Brownfield projects on any of 6 offshore platforms. Most of the projects involve addition of flow lines of various types (oil production single and dual, high- and low-pressure, gas production, gas lift, water injection). Process Engineering is the lead discipline on these projects. Prepare detailed process designs of other Brownfields projects. Conduct conceptual and front-end studies to assess the scope of additional projects suggested by client.

Key aims and objectives: Early assessment of project/process physical scope and the work steps required to enable reliable project planning and cost estimating. On-time issue of high quality detailed process engineering documentation. Prime responsibilities and duties: Review and comment on clients initial project documentation (basis of design, project initiation request). Lead development of the engineering portions of the Statement of Requirements for each assigned project. Identify Process activities and deliverables; prepare Process work plan and schedule. Direct junior engineers in the preparation of P&IDs, piping line lists, tie-in schedules, etc. Rigorously check each deliverable before submitting to Principal for approval. Lead Design / P&ID Review meetings. Review and comment on key documents (piping isos, instrument data sheets, etc.) from other disciplines. Direct the preparation of as-built P&IDs and related documentation for handover to client. Occasional offshore surveys of 2-3 days for design scope development or verification.

Core competencies: Wide-ranging experience in hydrocarbons processing. Detail design of oil and gas production facilities, particularly wellheads, flow lines and manifolds. Conceptual and detail design of brown fields projects. Process design and analytical methods, including theoretical background for programs, and calculations from first principles. Experienced in the use of codes of practice, standards and relevant sections of statutory documentation. Ability to give clear technical direction and guidance to junior engineers. Determined to deliver high quality documentation.

Essential: Detailed design of oil and gas production facilities. A number of process engineering design roles for offshore facilities. Conceptual and detailed design of Brownfield modifications projects. Process calculations using HYSYS steady state. Desirable: Start-up / commissioning. Operations engineering support in an operating hydrocarbons facility. Applied hazard management, especially HAZID and HAZOP. Process calculations using FLARENET.

Experienced in the use of codes of practice, standards and relevant sections of statutory documentation. Man-hours estimating, planning, progress monitoring, forecasting and reporting. Ability to work effectively on 3 or more simultaneous fast-track projects in various stage of development. Open and timely communication with within a multi-disciplinary team. Knowledge of design safety/environmental standards, procedures and responsibilities for both self and subordinates. Ability to plan and lead the work of multiple projects for a small team, to monitor progress, and to ensure delivery to plan. Bachelors Degree or equivalent in chemical engineering. Chartered Engineer and member of appropriate engineering institution.
