Job Description

Our client has a vacancy for a Principal Pipe Stress Engineer, based in Aberdeen. This is a contract position.


Responsibilities:
Provide specialist engineering design and contract strategy services to one or more projects at geographical location using specialist technology and skills.
Responsible for developing and implementing a strategy for the technical specialism, including reviewing industry and technology trends, and assisting discipline manager in developing discipline capability, training and development and succession planning.
Assist with discipline objectives and budget at geographical location.
Administer and implement company, and where applicable, client/project policies and procedures.
Provide technical and commercial input in specific areas of engineering expertise.
Undertake discipline technical authority role as allocated by Discipline Manager.
Supervision of discipline personnel and allocation of work.
Approval, checking and preparation of design/engineering documentation.
Maintain up to date knowledge of relevant technology in order to advise management on potential methods to enhance company capability.
Develop and enhance processes and systems for wider use in the discipline.
Evaluate and introduce new technology through testing, validation, completion of documentation and user training.
Undertake tasks on behalf of Discipline Manager and/or Lead Engineer as directed.
Provide input to cost estimates and executions plans.
Provide technical assistance to Business Development strategies, activities and initiatives.
Undertake training of less experienced engineers, including duties as a mentor.
Remain abreast of legislative requirements.
Implement applicable Legislation, Codes and Standards.
Maintain and develop current awareness of relevant engineering technology.
Maintain and develop current awareness of relevant codes and standards.
Liaise with other disciplines, departments, project personnel, vendors, clients, etc.
May act as and undertake the duties of Lead Engineer.


Qualifications/Training
Essential:
UK Bachelors Degree or equivalent in appropriate engineering subject.


Desirable:
Chartered Engineer and member of appropriate engineering institution.


Experience
Essential:
Highly experienced engineer with sound technical background and expertise.
Experienced in the use of appropriate codes of practice, standards and relevant sections of statutory documentation.
Highly experienced in use of design and assessment methods used within discipline.
Experienced in use of analytical methods used within discipline including theoretical background for analysis programs.
Experienced in planning, progress monitoring, forecasting and reporting.
Competent in commercial, contractual and administrative aspects of engineering.
Experienced in estimating man-hours and materials for most aspects of work.
Experienced in working with other disciplines and sections to meet delivery dates.
Highly experienced in quality control requirements and quality assurance for engineering work.
Experienced in design safety / environmental requirements, procedures and responsibilities for both self and subordinates.
Competent in leading, supervising and the organisation of a small / medium sized single discipline team within a project.


Desirable:
Capable of generating a co-operative team based culture for groups under your control.
Knowledge of personnel issues and aspirations of subordinates.
Able to take a lead in motivation, training and ongoing development of subordinates.
Able to perform a major role in setting group / discipline objectives.
