JOB PURPOSE:

To review the companys IT requirements from an operational and strategic perspective determine short and long term requirements for the organization and ensure effective operating systems and associated subsystems are in place for the smooth execution of the companys core organizational functions; provide necessary technical support for maintenance of these systems.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

Software and Hardware Application Management

Evaluate and recommend the most appropriate software and hardware applications for the organization in line with identified needs quality standards and systems criteria.

Plan and coordinate installation and upgrading of hardware and software programming and system design including appropriate computer networks internet and intranet accessibility system connectivity of all servers etc. with appropriate vendors in order to ensure alignment of the same with the organizational strategy and necessary directions.

Perform continuous testing of the companys operating systems to ensure optimal performance and functioning; troubleshoot and resolve all identified complications and errors.

Ensure the continuous availability of basic IT systems and user access for all the companys employees i.e. email intranet and internet access printing capabilities etc. in order to ensure smooth and adequate operations.

IT Operations Procurement Process

Assist in providing input during the procurement of IT Operation resources from a technical aspect whilst adhering to the companys policies to ensure an uninterrupted delivery of quality goods and / or services in a cost effective manner.

Assist in the negotiation with IT service providers on software purchase customization and implementation for the companys in line with the organizational best interest.

Provide assistance in the interpretation of the technical aspect during the procurement process with IT Operation service providers through the request for proposal developments or competition invitation documents as need be in order to remain abreast with the companys needs.

Assist at providing input during the search initiation of contact and short listing process of IT Operation service providers from a technical standpoint in order to gain an in-depth understanding of their respective delivery capabilities.

Service Support Management

Abide to the companys problem mandate stipulated in the policies and procedures manual so as to ensure a satisfactory troubleshoot of problems at hand.

Service Delivery Management

Ensure the IT & T Operations / Networks availability and capacity management in order to remain abreast with the companys business needs.

Ensure the robustness of IT infrastructure links amongst the companys sites so as to ensure continuous connectivity amongst participants.

Ensure the continuity management activities are available in order to ensure business continuity during abnormal working conditions.

Information Security Management

Ensure the secure operation of the companys IT & T systems and services in order to safeguard the companys IT & T infrastructure.

Record and maintain hardware and software inventories site and/or server licensing and user access and security information.

Ensure security of networks and data and ensure regular backups of information stored on all servers and system configuration.

Management Reporting

Ensure ongoing reporting including MIS to superiors in order to keep them abreast and informed with regard to the Network Engineering process from a performance aspect - status as requested.

Supervise and ensure a proper conduction of various systems analyses in order to facilitate managements decision making process.

Service Level Agreement Mitigation

Ensure the effective implementation of service levels agreements with various contractors so as to ensure an effective communication and compliance as per the companys requirements.

Policies & Procedures

Abide with the implementation of operational policies procedures and controls covering all areas of IT Operations activity so that all relevant procedural / legislative requirements are fulfilled while delivering a quality cost-effective service to customers.

Continuous Improvement

Contribute to the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement of section systems processes and practices taking into account international best practice improvement of business processes cost reduction and productivity improvement.

Assist in the research for emerging operating systems and hardware and software tools; assist in the recommendation of appropriate systems for the company based on identified IT needs feasibility cost-benefit overall efficiency and compatibility with already implemented systems

Ability to provide constant connectivity amongst sites.

PROBLEM SOLVING:

Broad Policies: Broad policy guidelines on results to be achieved. Will determine most effective approach to work identify required resources and agree with his / her manager timetables and anticipated results. Will have some delegated authority but this is unlikely to be financial in nature.

COMMUNICATIONS & WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal:

At own level in other departments Section Heads Department Manager and Executive Management.

External:

Contractors and Suppliers as and when necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

Minimum Qualification:

Bachelors in Computer Science or Computer Engineering.

Minimum Experience:

3 5 years in providing IT & T Operations with a working knowledge in IT software and hardware application; preferably in the Oil & Gas Sector but not a must.
