Job Description
Head of Drilling Engineering - Rio Brazil
Position Responsibilities
The Head of Drilling Engineering will be reporting to the Drilling Manager in Rio and will supervise the drilling engineering function.
The work will entail detailed optimised well planning and subsequent technical and operational support during the execution of the wells in 120meters of water. A semisubmersible rig will be used. A DST well test is planned for the second well.
Well planning in this context shall include but is not limited to ensuring accurate pore pressure/fracture gradient analyses are performed tubular and wellhead design including assistance with tendering and procurement coordinating and ensuring accuracy of directional well plans drilling fluids design shallow hazards bit and BHA optimization drilling hazard contingency planning coordinating with well testing planning and operations compliance with Brazilian regulatory requirements and company standards and policies etc.
Furthermore monitor operational performance ensure appropriate risk assessments are completed and captured in the drilling program and capturing of lessons learned are completed. You will also be responsible for ensuring knowledge sharing application of best practices incorporation of new technology leading and mentoring of Drilling and Wellsite Engineers and ensuring consistency and quality in all well documentation.
Required Experience
An engineering degree or similar educational background
Extensive experience as a Drilling Engineer with strong operational experience predominantly floating drilling operations
Offshore experience on floating rigs
Knowledge of subsea well control and BOP systems
History of subsea well design
Familiarity with subsea completions and well test operations
Preference given to Brazilian experience but not essential
Demonstrable skill in risk assessment and problem solving
Good supervisory and communication skills in a small team with remote support
Ability to interface with exploration personnel contractors other operators and government departments
Qualifications
Bachelors Degree or equivalent
