Skills and Competencies
The successful candidate will have strong leadership and management skills, in addition to considerable competency across primarily electrical disciplines but knowledge of control systems would be an advantage. Breadth of knowledge is the more important for this role than depth in any one area. Chartered status would be a considerable advantage.
Activities
In general the Group Head will act within guidelines set by the Management Team for issues such as performance and bonus setting, bonus levels, annual pay reward setting and other rewards and allowances.
The key activities on the role will be:-
* To regularly pass down to the group members information from the Management Team.
* Feed up the views of the Group.
* Ensuring individual PDP's are in place and acted upon.
* Assist group members in processing Hay Reviews as necessary.
* Training and welfare including safety issues.
* Agreeing bonus and other target setting (guidelines will be discussed at Management Team level).
* Performance discussions (performance targets guidelines will be set at Management Team level).
* Advising and assisting group members of career progress, including re-grading proposals or pay reviews. (Proposals for re-grades or pay reviews must be presented to the Management Team.)
* Pay and bonus levels discussions, (Team Manger will supply the guidelines and the Management Team will always review the pay and bonus proposals as a whole to ensure consistency).
* If necessary and possible, step in to carry out technical tasks at all levels of competency to help alleviate task resource constraints or timing issues.
* Work with the Management to establish policy and strategy for the Team including assisting in the business plan development.
* Justify, as necessary, additional posts in the Team and processing the advertising, interviewing and appointments.
* Stand in for Team Manager.
