Job Description
The company is the UK's leading generator, supplier and distributor of low carbon energy. They produce almost one-quarter of the nation's electricity from their nuclear, coal and gas power stations, wind farms, and combined heat and power plants. They have a focus on safe, dependable energy generation and an ethos of service excellence. Together they intend to play a leading role in new nuclear build in the UK and secure a bright future for the combined business and its employees.
 
Due to an increase in workload they wish to recruit an Environmental Officer within the environmental function of their Safety and Technical Division. You will be an Environmental professional with a proven record of delivery and passion for environmental excellence. Ideally you will have detailed experience and knowledge of EU and UK Environmental legislation and the regulatory framework applied to nuclear power stations.
 
The work of the group is varied and includes provision of specialist advice and guidance on environmental issues to their fleet of nuclear power stations, setting of environmental standards and the management of interfaces with key stakeholders and regulators.
 
The role requires you to provide authoritative specialist advice and guidance to both operational sites and corporate bodies on compliance with environmental legislation and regulatory interactions. You will be required to have practical experience in the environmental regulatory field and a comprehensive understanding of the environmental regulatory regime within the UK. Detailed knowledge of existing and emerging national and international conventional environmental legislation is essential and you will be expected to respond to government consultations.
 
You will possess excellent communications skills, be a strong team player and be able to provide evidence that demonstrates a strong developing performance in the following competence areas; task and project delivery, negotiation and influence, developing self, challenge and change.


In addition to detailed conventional environmental legislation, a basic understanding on the radioactive environmental challenges of operating nuclear power plants and knowledge of environmental management systems is desirable. As a minimum, you will have a relevant HNC (or equivalent) but those with a relevant degree may have an advantage.
