Job Description

The Drilling Project Leader (DPL) will be a member of the Caribbean Region who will be assigned to the Suriname, Guyana Exploratory Projects and as part time as DPL in TSP (T&T Drilling Project). The candidate will report directly to the Drilling Manager of the Caribbean Region and will be Drilling focal point for Exploratory Projects.

The candidate will be based principally in Port Of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago W.I. during the well feasibility and planning phases and will move temporarily to Suriname o Guyana during the project planning and execution (Drilling & Completions) according with Project requirement.

The DPL will be a senior representative of the company and will lead the drilling team in the planning and execution of all drilling and well testing operations assigned to his project team. Candidate will be responsible for ensuring the proper and safe well design and execution of all operational procedures in accordance with accepted industry standards and Drilling and HSEQ policies and procedures.

Provide strong leadership and supervision of Drilling Operations Team comprising Drilling Engineers, Drilling Superintendent, Drilling Supervisors, Drilling Contractor, Service Companies and other personnel assigned to his team.

Provide support in setting up an operations base in country with all the equipment, drilling and well testing services and logistics support that would be required for the project.

Prepare Scope of Work, conduct technical evaluation of bids and prepare recommendations of award for all the equipment and services that would be required for the drilling and well testing operations in this project.

Manage all company drilling related operational procedures on a daily basis following sound drilling practices and accepted and proven industry standards to ensure that operations are conducted in an efficient, cost effective, safe and environmentally responsible manner at all times in accordance with companys Drilling and HSEQ policies and procedures.

Ensure that the drilling contractor maintains the rig and equipment in a proper and safe working condition at all times, and that all operations are carried out in accordance with companys HSE policies and procedures.

Resolve daily operational issues as they arise.

Manage on-site rig supervisors on non-routine procedures and instruct them in emergency situations.

Direct and organize, in emergency situations, the necessary means to safeguard personnel, equipment, the environment, and the wellbore, in accordance with approved plans.

Ensure that the on-site rig supervisors material and equipment orders are suitable for the intended application and drilling conditions.

A thorough understanding of the issues associated with offShore well design and operations.

Extensive experience in identifying, assessing and mitigating risks associated with offshore drilling operations.

A detailed working knowledge of current rig and down-hole equipment being used to drill offshore wells and overview knowledge of completions equipment and procedures.

An in-depth understanding of offshore fracture-gradient issues and available technologies

Ability to prepare PP/FG plots from offset data analysis and carry out detailed casing design for both drilling and production load cases

An up-to-date knowledge of current state-of-the-art technologies and procedures for use in deepwater well designs and operations.

An in-depth knowledge of and network in the contractor and vendor industry serving the drilling and well segment of the industry

Able to generate/provide/review probabilistic risk based well-cost estimates for both exploration and development scenarios.

Able to prepare appropriate well construction contract strategies and follow through with the tendering and evaluation of drilling, well testing equipment and services as well as logistics support services.

Be a strong advocate for team work and have the necessary interpersonal skills.

Ability to lead and supervise offshore drilling and well testing operations team.

Previous experience/participation in both internal and external well audits and peer reviews.

Ability to inspect and evaluate rig equipment for making rig selection and conducting safety audits.

Knowledge management; systematic sharing and transfer of experience and knowledge using net-based tools.

In-depth understanding of HSE issues related to offshore drilling operations.

Ability to communicate and work effectively in culturally diverse environment.

Education and Experience Levels

Recognized degree in Engineering with at least 18 years working experience in Drilling, Completions and Well Testing Engineering and Operations.

Preferred candidate will have at least 15 years experience in international offshore drilling, completion and well testing operations of which a minimum of 5 years should be in recent deepwater operations in a leadership role.

Previous experience with a major operating company would be desired.

Excellent written and verbal skills in English language. Spanish would be advantageous.
