Drilling Superintendent - Rio de Janeiro - Brazil
An international operating company is seeking a Drilling Superintendent for its upcoming drilling campaign based in their office in Rio Brazil.

The Position and Responsibilities

The Drilling Superintendent will be part of a small drilling team reporting to the Drilling Manager in Rio.

The work will entail detailed optimized well planning and subsequent technical and operational support during the execution of the wells. Water depth is 120m in the Campos basin and a semisubmersible rig will be used. A DST well test is planned for the second well.

Amongst other responsibilities the Drilling Superintendent will follow up on pre-contract rig and equipment inspections to ensure company specifications procedures and safety standards are met prior the spud of the first well in September 2010.

The Drilling Superintendent will within the team ensure that all practical aspects of organizing the required support to the operation are timely and efficiently dealt with.

You will also be responsible for:
Ensuring application of best practices incorporation of new technology leading and mentoring of Rig Supervisory staff.

QA/QC the preparation of drilling completion and work-over programs

Day to Day support to the offshore Team during the execution of appraisal and exploration wells. Act as focal point for communications to and from the well-site keeping the Drilling Manager informed of progress and any relevant incidents
Monitor operational performance trends of the drilling contractor and service companies and where required ensure corrective measures are implemented immediately.
Liaise with Drilling Engineering to ensure that best practices are incorporated into programmes
Ensure all programme changes and amendments are checked approved before transmittal to the Drilling Supervisors
Plan and coordinate with the Rig Supervisor for timely arrival of required materials equipment and service personnel.
Perform period checks on Drilling Contractors and Service Companies equipment and personnel in order to ensure contractual obligations are fulfilled and work performed safely
Ensure in case of emergency situation coordination between onshore and drilling rig in order to ensure that such situation is handled promptly effectively and in accordance with Companys Contingency Plans.

Qualifications and Profile of Candidate

An engineering degree or similar educational background
>15 years experience with Rig Supervisory background and preferably min 6 years as a Drilling Superintendent or equivalent with strong exploration operational experience predominantly within floating drilling operations
Offshore experience on floating rigs
Holding subsea well control certificate.
Exposure to subsea well design preferred
Familiarity with subsea completions and well test operations
Preference given to Brazilian experience but not essential
Demonstrable skill in risk assessment and problem solving
Good supervisory and communication skills in a small team with remote support
Ability to interface with personnel in other departments and externally with local contractors and operators
