Our principle, a leading oil and gas operator in the State of Qatar, is having immediate requirement for:

DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR

Reports to: Head of IT Operations

(Whilst all applications will be considered preference will be given to candidates from Texas (USA) and Canada)

Location: Doha, Qatar

Start Date: ASAP

JOB PURPOSE:

* To administer and maintain the databases and related software in order to ensure optimal performance of the database and monitor the resources available for the various database systems to assure reliability, accessibility, and recoverability.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

Database Administration

* Design logical and physical definitions of the companys Database Management System and document database structures and their interaction with other applications in order to facilitate future upgrades.

* Assist in the control and development of all database development procedures and assist in creating, maintaining and improving reports for use throughout the company after analyzing users needs and information availability with respect to database applications and established business rules.

* Monitor and fine-tune the performance of databases (including trouble shooting); assist in the daily, weekly and monthly maintenance/back-up of the Databases and ensure reliability/ recoverability of information in the database.

* Ensure compatibility between the number of users and the number of granted licenses; and maintain adherence to legal considerations on the same.

IT Operations Procurement Process

* Ensure providing input during the procurement of IT Operation resources from a technical aspect whilst adhering to the companys policies to ensure an uninterrupted delivery of quality goods and / or services in a cost effective manner.

* Contribute towards the interpretation of the technical aspect during the procurement process with IT Operation service providers through the request for proposal developments or competition invitation documents, as need be, in order to remain abreast with the companys needs.

* Provide input during the search, initiation of contact and short listing process of IT Operation service providers from a technical standpoint in order to gain an in-depth understanding of their respective delivery capabilities.

Service Support Management

* Abide to the companys problem mandated policies and procedures manual so as to ensure a satisfactory troubleshooting of problems at hand.

* Abide to the IT & T Operations change and release management activities so as to guarantee a smooth operation of systems and services.

Service Delivery Management

* Ensure the IT & T Operations availability and capacity management in order to remain abreast with the companys business needs and objectives.

* Ensure the companys data repositories to ensure high availability, optimisation levels and secure data.

* Ensure the continuity management in order to ensure business continuity during abnormal working conditions for databases.

Information Security Management

* Ensure a secure operation of the companys databases security (systems) in order to safeguard the companys IT & T business solutions databases.

* Implement and assess database access privileges and monitor the list of active users to ensure maximum data security.

Management Reporting

* Ensure ongoing reporting (including MIS) to superiors in order to keep them abreast and informed with regard to the database administration process from a performance aspect - status, as requested.

* Supervise and ensure a proper conduction of various systems analyses in order to facilitate managements decision making process.

Service Level Agreement Mitigation

* Supervise and follow up on the implementation of service levels agreements with various contractors so as to ensure an effective communication and compliance as per the companys requirements.

Policies & Procedures

* Abide with the implementation of operational policies, procedures and controls covering all areas of IT Operations activity so that all relevant procedural / legislative requirements are fulfilled while delivering a quality, cost-effective service to customers.

Continuous Improvement

* Contribute to the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement of section systems, processes and practices taking into account international best practice, improvement of business processes, cost reduction and productivity improvement.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:

* End user satisfaction.

* Ability to meet planned annual objectives.

* Adequacy of Database Management.

* Management attests ability to communicate with other vertical application owners.

* Adequate logical and physical definitions of the companys Database Management System. Individual objectives, training development plans in place for all direct reports within the timescales defined by the corporate performance management process. Frequency of feedback and appraisal meetings.

PROBLEM SOLVING:

* Broad Functional and Managerial Guidelines: Jobs are usually at the Division Head Level, where there are no written procedures and where plans are typically made on an annual basis with a monthly or quarterly review of results. Positions in this category usually have some financial and administrative authority.

COMMUNICATIONS & WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal:

* At own level in other departments, Section Heads, Department Manager and Executive Management.

External:

* Shareholder representatives, external and internal auditor leads, Database software dealers, consultants and software developers.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS:

Minimum Qualification:

* Bachelors in Computer Science or Computer Engineering.

Minimum Experience:

* 3 5 years in providing IT & T Operations with a working knowledge in database administration preferably in the Oil & Gas Sector but not a must.
