Our client is a leading provider of flow equipment products systems and services to worldwide oil gas and process industries. The have an exciting opportunity as a Customer Support Representative to join their team in the South of Aberdeen.

Job Purpose
To develop oil tool equipment designs either to meet specific customer requirements or the needs of the oilfield industry in general; by personal design effort or by control of other engineers; provision of technical information instructions drawings within a planned schedule; advice to customers other operations and departments within the Aberdeen plant on tool design problems and solutions.

Job Context and Dimensions
The engineers duties shall include but not necessarily be restricted to the following:

The Engineering Manager will allocate tasks which originate principally from customer enquiries EWRs and specifications external to the Company but may also include projects concerned with the development of new products to meet the needs of the oilfield industry in general.

There is a requirement to analyse customer requirements and to develop design concepts which satisfy a customers needs and uphold the Companys standard of functional design and quality.

To liaise with and discuss the operational needs with the Sales Force and/or with customers technical or operational personnel.

Design concepts are prepared for presentation and have to include detail layout/drawings for evaluation.

Technical knowledge skill and experience must embrace the industrys accepted standards; those specifications set out in API AISI standards etc. Must be aware of regulations covering design safety hazard and environmental restraints as laid down by Governmental Organisations etc pertinent to the customers sphere of operations.

If required be prepared to draw up operating procedures for new equipment or assembly and test procedures.

The design and development will be influenced by knowledge of in plant manufacturing techniques and also by knowledge of new and improved manufacturing capabilities outside of the Company.

The Engineering Standards provide general guidance in the specification of materials and processes although where necessary modifications and additions must be prepared in consultation with specialised staff and/or his seniors.

During the preparation of design documents and manufacturing drawings the job holder will ensure adherence to the procedures stipulated in the Product Engineering Manual PEM and the Quality Assurance Manual QAM. These may be modified in certain instances by Special Procedures SPs or customer Purchase Order requirements.

In the projects assigned to the job holder other engineering personnel may be delegated a portion of the work involving detailed design and preparation of manufacturing drawings bills of material specification of purchased items and other manufacturing support data. The job holder will closely monitor their work and give technical direction as required to ensure that the work fulfils all the above requirements.

The engineer will be required to check drawings or work performed by others to ensure that this work is functionally correct and meets all Purchase Order requirements and the requirements of specified standards. Before documents are released the job holder will ensure that they have been checked and that they are passed to the Engineering Manager or his designee for design review and approval as required by the detail procedures in the Product Engineering Manual. The job holder may be required to co-ordinate and give progress reports to a Senior Engineer Principal Engineer Engineering Manager or a Project Management Team.

When engaged in such design and development work there may be an involvement in manufacturing methods discussions functional testing and inspection of first off products and the evaluation of new designs.

The incumbent may periodically be called outside of normal working hours to deal with urgent matters requiring engineering advice during manufacture or field installation of equipment and may be called upon to make visits to the well site to give technical assistance.

The incumbent will be required to join the on call rota for the engineering department. The frequency of this requirement will depend upon the number of personnel within the department who are on the rota. Once On Call the incumbent will be required to act as the focal point for all engineering enquiries during this period on a 24-hour basis.
The job holder will when required write Engineering Reports on the performance of equipment results of tests or other similar technical matters.

The job holder will give assistance to the Sales Office in identifying customer needs and in confirming existing product part number etc and will give technical advice resulting from telephone enquiries from other plants warehouses service centres and customers.

Consult with and advise Manufacturing Purchasing Suppliers and Quality Departments as necessary.

Regular consultations will be held with the Engineering Manager to discuss development or problems and where required will liaise with Product Engineering personnel in Leeds Houston Beziers etc. Such consultations and liaisons give opportunity for exchange of ideas and information on design development and projected new fields of manufacture.

Key Responsibilities
Compliance with Company Health& Safety regulations.

Analyse and develop Product Design to meet customers or the industrys needs having an awareness of good economic design and safety both in manufacture and function.
Engage in product development work.
Discuss the customers requirements to identify Companys products which meet these.
Give technical advice on the application and proper use of products.
Prepare drawings information and provide the service necessary for the repair group and other departments.

Knowledge and Skills state the minimum education qualifications skills and experience required to perform the role to a satisfactory level

The job holder would ideally hold a four year honours degree in Engineering or as an alternative hold an HND or HNC plus suitable experience. The requirement for holding a degree in Engineering should be deviated from only when justified by work experience leadership abilities customer relation skills and demonstrated technical proficiency.
