Job Description

Our Client has an outstanding opportunity for an experienced professional to join our Civil and Structural Design department in Teesside as a Civil / Structural Designer on an agency basis.

The Individual

We are looking for a self motivated and able individual to work in a team who will be required to achieve goals and meet deadlines as well as manage motivate and inspire staff within the discipline.

Requirements

Advise the Principal Engineer Structures of:

  • Any major slippages and their causes and proposed corrective action.
  • All policy matters major technical problems and unresolved differences with other Groups.
  • Requests for changes by the Client which may constitute a contract change.
  • Review relevant project design work and in particular:
  • Engineering Flow Diagrams.
  • Piping Layouts and Model.
  • Instrument and Electrical layout drawings.
  • Civil layouts.
  • Establish and maintain a filing system of project documents.
  • Arrange for the transfer of records to storage microfilming and for destruction.


Responsibilities

  • Execute assigned work in accordance with the Project Execution Plan applicable Project
  • Procedures and Standards including Our client and/or Project Procedures on Safety and Quality Control within the manhour and cost budgets and the project schedule targets.
  • Liaise with the Project Co-ordinating Engineer regarding the interpretation of Clients
  • Specifications and Standards and prepare Project Specifications and Standards for design materials and construction.
  • Review the project execution schedule developed by the Cost and Planning Department and to develop the detailed schedule for Civil Engineering and Design activities.
  • Responsible for administration and immediate direction of civil engineering and design on a project.
  • Participate in design and checking work as required.
  • Ensure that quality of design and drawings produced for enquiry and construction purposes on projects assigned to him are of the specified standard.
  • Prepare requisitions for sub-contracts and procurement of materials.
  • Submit sub-contract requisitions to the Principal Engineer Structures for approval before issue.
  • Perform technical audits on consultants reporting to him on the project.
  • Prepare the master Sub-contract and Material Requisition Indexes update and issue it on a regular basis.
  • Review Subcontractors and Suppliers quotations participate in clarification meetings prepare technical quotation evaluation and recommend the final technically acceptable
  • Subcontractor in conjunction with Subcontracts / Materials Management Departments commercial quotation evaluation.
  • Technically approve Purchase Order Variation Summaries.
  • Hold co-ordination meetings with the Construction Department during the design phase and provide assistance to site when requested during the construction phase of a project.
  • Carry out the following functions relative to Subcontractors documentation:
  • Review document requirements and issue dates for major items with subcontractors at the pre-ward meeting.
  • Compile a subcontractors Document Index update and issue it on a monthly basis.
  • Distribute Subcontractors documentation to the various Engineering and Drawing Office
  • Groups and co ordinate their comments.
  • Prepare consolidated comments and return these to the Subcontractor.
  • Correspond with the Contractor on technical matters and ensure that action is taken where necessary.
  • Liaise with Subcontracts Department to obtain all necessary Subcontractor information in
  • particular review with the Subcontracts Department late Subcontractor documentation for expediting.
  • Liaise with the Project Engineer regarding information required by the Design Engineers and Drawing Office.
  • Issue copies of final documentation for inclusion in the Mechanical Catalogues.
  • Liaise with other Groups and Client as necessary but in particular:
  • With the Piping Mechanical Equipment Instrument Utilities and with Project Groups in relation to Civil design to ensure compliance with Project Standards and requirements.
  • With the Project Coordinating Engineer on matters of project co ordination and programme plant safety and work scope that could constitute a contract change.
  • With the Clients Civil Engineer on technical matters.
  • With Construction Department on matters relating to the design of temporary works and constructability.
  • With Cost & Planning Department to ensure the Civil Engineering Schedule reflects the overall project execution schedule.
  • With Quantity Surveying Group to provide documentation to enable the preparation of Bills of Quantities and ongoing monitoring of sub-contract costs.
