Blasting Design Engineers job in Hong Kong
Our client is one of Hong Kong’s premier main contractors, with an extensive full order book of major tunnelling projects on behalf of the MTR Corporation. They are now looking for high-calibre candidates to fill permanent, long term, stable positions with their drill & blast project teams in Hong Kong.
Duties and responsibilities:
Blasting Engineers are responsible for producing daily designs, assessing post blast performance in making future designs (perimeter control, fragmentation), recording explosives consumption, ensuring the correct setup of drilling jumbos (right file, drill depths etc), supervising drilling / charging and firing, managing misfires, assisting with the creation of Blasting Method Statements and other documents.
They provide technical resourcing to the Shotfirers on the ground and manage MTR RES inspectors when queries are raised on site. For example if a pattern requires on site changes to be made, it can impact on the firing sequence which in turn requires a redesign ‘on the fly’. This process is managed by the Blasting Engineer and implemented in conjunction with the Registered Shotfirer.
Requirements:
- Have a minimum of 4 years experience
- Have experience supervising charge up crews and drilling operations
- Demonstrate knowledge of blast and initiation design principles i.e be able to design a tunnel / shaft blast and the required initiation design
- Ideally have used Sandvik / Tamrock drilling software (Visual Tunnelling / iSure) or be familiar with other software packages as supplied by other jumbo manufacturers. Eg Tunnel Manager from Atlas Copco
- Alternatively candidates could have experience using mining software packages that are comparable in technical complexity
- Ideally have used JKSym blast initiation software or be familiar with initiation (timing) design software as supplied by other suppliers.
Our client will offer a highly attractive salary package that takes advantage of Hong Kong’s low tax rate of only 15% income tax, as well as benefits such as flights, housing allowance, pension, medical, bonus, etc.
