Principal Design Engineer job in UK
Our Client has an immediate contract requirement for an Auxiliary Systems Engineer to act as Lead Contractor for the Assessment Phase of ship design. The Analysis of Options phase is focussed on analysing the major options and cost drivers in support of decisions to determine the baseline solution to be taken forward into Stage 1 Design and on to Main Gate. The Auxiliary Systems Principal Engineer will manage a team to discharge the assigned scope of work through Stage 1 Design in preparation and support of a successful Main Gate submission.
Key Technical Skills.
This position requires a wide knowledge of Marine Engineering, and Naval Ship design experience in order to fulfil this role. The output from the projects Capability Decision Point will be a definition of the high level platform capabilities chosen by the MOD customer. The Auxiliary Systems Principal Engineer will be required to assess the impact from the CDP on the auxiliary systems within their responsibility before developing the system solutions through Stage 1 Design.
He/she will require the capability to assess the work carried out by members of their team to assure its quality and the technical acceptability of solutions proposed.
An understanding of factors in machinery design which affect Underwater Radiated Noise will be required.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a team of Marine Engineers to deliver to quality, cost and schedule. They will be required to negotiate technical issues with the Customer; provide clear guidelines to lead the team and provide the appropriate motivation to achieve stretching targets.
You will be working as part of a team which will have a high level of interaction, both within the wider project team, and with the MoD customer This is essential to developing a sound technical solution within a tight budget.
You will be required to balance the completion of high level actions from various stakeholder groups with the effective running of an engineering team. There will be a particular focus on providing design solutions which minimise Through Life Costs whilst remaining within the target UPC. The project will be adopting cutting edge technologies and an understanding and capture of the risks associated with these will be required.

Manage a team of engineers allocated to systems within their responsibility to progress the tasks identified in the related SoW’s in accordance with the agreed schedules & budgets.
