Job Description

We are seeking a Principal Finite Element Engineer to join our clients teams in the London office.

You will work on subsea pipeline projects in many challenging locations including the North Sea, the Arctic, West Africa, the Mediterranean and the Caspian.

Technical challenges will include water depths up to 3.5 km, product temperatures ranging from -190 to 160oC, corrosive products, composite materials, ice bergs, tsunamis, land slides, scour and cyclones.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Technical Management & delivery of FEA scope on projects.
  • Supervision and training of pipeline engineers in FE techniques.
  • Maintenance of quality and content of deliverables.
  • Presentations of analysis results to Clients.
  • Contribute to Company technical and marketing publications.
  • Contribute to development of engineering technology & tools.
  • Undertake research and development projects.

Experience Required

  • MSc or PhD in FE related subjects.
  • 10 years industry experience in the use of FE methods in the analysis of pipelines, flowlines, end terminations and related subjects.
  • Familiarity with limit state analyses of pipeline design for but not limited to buckling, walking, fatigue, free spans, seismic, thermal and on bottom stablility
  • Familiarity with FE 2 & 3D modelling. FE software, and the use of Abaqus on desktop machines.
  • Knowledge of pipeline and spool installation techniques
  • Knowledge of pipeline materials, insulation methods, composite pipe types.
  • Hard working and honest
  • Open attitude and willingness to tackle new tasks
  • Willingness to work as part of a team
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in an engineering environment
  • Will demonstrate initiative but know when to ask for help.
