We are representing a large Far Eastern main contractor who has extensive projects in civil engineering across various locations in Asia, including Hong Kong, Malaysia, India and Taiwan. With a long and successful history, they have built up a reputation for delivering complex and challenging major civil engineering and infrastructure projects.

With the recent award of a new contract on the Delhi Metro extensions, they are now looking for a competent project leader for the scheme to replace the existing project manager who is required to be involved in another part of the business. The project is valued at approximately US$100 million and will take three years to complete, with the scope of works to include a 2km twin bored tunnel, approximately 5 metres in diameter, as well as a cut and cover underground station and various other associated works.

The Project Manager will take full responsibility for delivery of the scheme, reporting into the International Director. Duties will include regular liaison with the client and the client’s representatives, ensuring adequate progress to schedule, managing the project team, full financial P & L responsibility, health & safety, quality assurance and control, engineering & design management and any other requirements to get the project built on time, within budget and agreed terms. The project team will include expat and Indian management, with the TBM tunnels being managed by an experienced expat tunnel construction manager, who will report into the Project Manager. The Project Manager will, as well as leading the entire project, take responsibility for the station construction.

Our client is prepared to offer a three year contract with the strong probability of further work after this project somewhere in Asia. As this is Delhi based, they are open to the role being filled by someone wanting either single or married status. They will provide a highly attractive tax free salary plus living allowance, flights, medical and gratuity.

To be of the requisite ability, experience and calibre, candidates should be able to demonstrate all of the following:

• Degree qualified or similar in an engineering qualification. Candidates must hold a technical qualification of AT LEAST diploma or above, but ideally a degree in civil engineering or similar.
• Extensive experience of heavy civil engineering projects
• Been in the project manager / leader position on a large civil engineering scheme from inception to completion – scheme must be US$100 million plus
• Stable career history with a recognised leading main civil engineering contractors (not consultancies or client organisations)
• Worked in a challenging Asian, Middle East or African location
• Experienced at managing multi-cultural team
• Confident and outgoing, but not aggressive in nature
• Fluent written and spoken English
